Can you believe we are already approaching August?! This summer has flown by, but the one good thing about this is that it’s time again for White Linen Night in the Heights! Mark your calendar for Saturday night, August 4th from 6-10 p.m for the party of the summer. This block party has been a staple in the Houston events calendar for the past 12 years, and is one that simply cannot be missed! And this year, WLN is bigger and better than ever, now taking over the 200 AND 300 blocks of 19th St!
The event is open to the general public and has no admission fee, making it the perfect Saturday night activity for everyone! Though an all-white outfit is not required, at least one article of white is heavily suggested! And if you need a little outfit inspiration, MRG has you covered- check out our fave white picks here.
Never been to WLN? The whole event started as the brainchild of Kay and Chris Thayer, who were New Orleans natives transplanted in Houston after Hurricane Katrina. After settling in H-Town, they opened a boutique on 19th Street and quickly became at home in the Heights. Inspired by an event in The French Quarter Arts district, where New Orleans locals would dress in their white linen best and peruse art from the area, WLN in the Heights was born!
Organized by the Thayer family, along with the Heights First Saturday group, the event is intended to bring the people of Houston to 19th Street to celebrate the local businesses. Each business creates an experience tied to their own unique flair, making the event truly one-of-a-kind!
Permanent storefronts, like longtime friends of MRG Manready Mercantile, will be offering treats and drinks to it’s shoppers, alongside street vendors offering up fabulous foods reflective of Houston’s eclectic foodie personality! Live music and entertainment booths full of art treasures line the streets, offering the optimal sip-and-stroll experience. Many of these artists are Houston-locals, who show regularly at First Saturday Arts Market!
Lords of Kool will be serving up some classic hits and top 40 jams outside of Jubilee to dance along to while shopping! And if you need a little liquid encouragement before you break out those dancing shoes, Emerson Rose will be hosting Club Rosé, with a DJ, junk food bar, cider and of course, ROSÉ! Men, don’t worry there’s much more than just rosé at WLN. Bobcat Teddy’s Ice House is also participating in WLN with live music, games and giveaways from the likes of Lonestar Beer and Jack Daniel’s! And on top of all of these activities, there will be even more art this year, including the new, beautiful street art covering the whole west wall of Dramatika Custom Framing by Ana Marietta. All of this is only a small glimpse into the excitement, so you have to make your way out to 19th Street to discover the rest!
If you need a break from the 19th St. madness, hop on over to 1218 Heights Blvd. to check out John Palmer Art‘s soiree. They have been holding this for the past 10 years and know their way around a good time! Free champagne, valet, and gorgeous art will be waiting for you along with A/C!!
