On a beautiful Friday evening, Houston’s River Oaks Country Club sparkled with energy and purpose as Avenue 360 hosted its Voices for Hope gala—an event that elegantly combined glamour, community, and compassion. After a long hiatus, the evening was a warm, celebratory return to in-person fundraising, with the night’s proceeds of over $215,000 benefiting Omega House, Texas’ first residential hospice dedicated to AIDS patients. For me, this cause is truly near and dear to my heart, so seeing the evening’s powerful turnout and generosity was nothing short of inspiring. Presented by Amerapex, co-chairs Alicia Smith and Brigitte Kalai brought Houston’s philanthropic charm to life for this night of elegance and charity.
The evening kicked off with a cocktail reception, a perfect scene where longtime friends and fresh faces mingled over signature drinks, delightful bites, and a lively raffle with prizes that made jaws drop. With Deborah Duncan as the charming emcee, the night quickly filled with laughter and joyful conversation, and the crowd was treated to dazzling raffle prizes. From designer jewels by Nini Jewels and Wayne Smith Jewels to a dreamy staycation at The Post Oak Hotel complete with a Porsche, the excitement continued with a shopping spree at Tootsie’s, adding another layer of luxury to an already unforgettable night. Avenue 360 truly outdid themselves in crafting a luxurious experience.
Inside the ballroom, the magic only deepened. The room’s stunning floral arrangements, courtesy of H-E-B, and sophisticated décor by Kirksey Gregg created a scene as chic as it was heartfelt. And as the HSPVA choir surprised guests with a soulful rendition of “Seasons of Love,” from RENT, it became clear this was more than a gala—it was a gathering of hearts. The night continued with electrifying performances from Beaumont’s blues artist Luke Whitney, followed by the powerhouse vocals of America’s Got Talent sensation Christina Wells, whose anthems brought the house down and the guests to their feet. DJ Freddy B later spun tunes that filled the dance floor, and, with light-up microphones in hand, the crowd was joyously singing along—a perfect end to an unforgettable evening.
As Avenue 360 celebrated 25 years of Bering Omega Community Services, special honors were given to those who have shaped Omega House’s compassionate legacy. Ken Bohan, a devoted board member, was awarded the Harmony of the Heart Award, while Medical Director Dr. Gus Krucke, Director of Dental Services Dr. Mark Nichols, and Director Sandy Stacy received the Symphony of Service Award. Sandy Stacy, an incredible force behind Omega House’s mission for 30 years, received a standing ovation—a true testament to the respect and gratitude of everyone present.
The gala was about much more than fundraising—it was a reflection of Houston’s caring spirit. As Avenue 360’s President and CEO, Dr. Charlene Flash, shared, “This year’s Voices for Hope event enables us to continue the essential work of Omega House, ensuring that those facing terminal illness find comfort and dignity in their final days.”
From heartfelt performances to moving tributes, Avenue 360’s Voices for Hope reminded all of us of the power of community. This night wasn’t just another fundraiser; it was a beautiful reminder of Houston’s boundless generosity and compassion!
