As the news and reactions to the news have been excalating so rapidly in the last couple of days, one thing that has been paramount on my mind as myself or members of my family have struggled with the crowds to search for much needed food and/or supplies, has been concern for the homebound elderly that have no way of securing the things that they need so desperately to survive this crisis. As I have given to Interfaith Ministries Meals on Wheels in the past and have several good friends that have volunteered for this organizaton and it’s tiny sibling group, Animeals on Wheels.
I went directly to their Facebook page and there it was, a great opportunity to join in on a matching fund that an amazing couple have put into place to quickly expedite funding for these seniors and their precious animals. I did, of course, chip in but the point of this posting is that although they met their matching goal there is still much need there. So if you feel as I do, so lovingly for the parents and grandparents in your life you might want to chip into this as well, either from my blog or go directly to their FB page.
About Meals on Wheels: Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels provides home-delivered meals to over 4,400 homebound seniors and disabled adults in five counties. This nutritioinal support helps people stay independent and in their own homes. Additionally, Animeals delivers pet food to over 1,300 cats and dogs of Meals on Wheels recipients.
MESSAGE FROM MEALS ON WHEELS FB PAGE…..
Thank you for helping Meals on Wheels prepare seniors for COVID 19… you have met our matching challenge…..still $$’s left to raise!
Thanks to friends like you, we have met the generous matching gift challenge from donors Asha and Farid Virani and then some! That support, combined with corporate sponsorships, has been a tremendous help over the past three days. Now, we only have $13,500 left to raise to cover the costs of delivering emergency shelf-stable food to our Meals on Wheels seniors in March. Can you help us reach that goal before the weekend ends? Please give today at https://www.imgh.org/events/operation-impact/.
Your support ensures that over 4,300 seniors in the Greater Houston/Galveston area receive non-perishable food this week to use in case the COVID 19 outbreak affects our meal deliveries. This food may also be used during hurricane season if needed. Thank you for ensuring that vulnerable seniors have access to food during this uncertain time.

We need to raise $37,500 more to help seniors during the COVID-19 Outbreak… your donation will be doubled!
Give today at: https://www.imgh.org/events/operation-impact/.
Our friends, Asha and Farid Virani, have generously offered to match the first $10,000 raised- dollar for dollar. They were inspired to due this by their son, Faris, who passed away at the age of 9 from Ewing sarcoma. He loved his grandma, and his spirit lives on to remind us all to care for all the grandmas and grandpas- our Meals on Wheels seniors.
Moving up this annual emergency food distribution comes with added costs. Thank you to lead donations from an anonymous foundation, Kroger, Comerica Bank, Greater Texas Credit Union, and Moody Bank! Now, we need your help in raising the rest of the funds needed to protect our seniors. Can you please give today?
