Packing Tips For All of Your Getaway Needs
- Make a written list of your outfits and essentials to make sure you don’t over pack or forget something
- Research the weather beforehand, so pack correctly (always safe, plan layers!)
- Plan pieces that can give you multiple wears; rule of thumb, do not bring anything that you can’t wear with at least 2 other pcs.
- Wear your heaviest/bulkiest items to the airport; includes hats!
- Be realistic about what you will actually wear and need
- Pack neutral colors with no more then 3 coordinating colors
- Accessorize your outfits by scarfs, belts, earrings, necklaces; things that won’t take up too much space in your bag….great pop to your wardrobe and secret to looking like you are wearing different outfits; my trick pack handbags inside handbags; other accessories inside of each other….can save so much space!
- Repurpose the items you take with you: your carry on could be your beach bag, a one-piece swimsuit could also be a tank top, an on-the-go dress or great white shirt could also be a swimsuit cover up
- If you are traveling with family use the buddy up system: she/he can bring the dryer/iron/flatiron and you can bring the shampoo/conditioner
- Rolling clothes prevents wrinkles and saves space in your bag (your travel wardrobe should be dominated by versatile knits)
- Items to never forget when traveling: pouches and plastic bags, sunglasses, a good book, snacks, flip flops, headphones, a travel water bottle, a foldable hat, medicinal basics, hand sanitizer, coconut oil, a cross body bag
- Pieces like dresses and rompers/jumpsuits are easier to travel with; however you should also plan all of your pieces that will work with at least TWO other items that you are brining or at least be able to use in multiple settings……onesies that are inflexible should be left at home unless you have ONE drop dead outfit for a special occasion (wedding?!)
- Sneakers, sandals, and wedges are ideal shoes to travel with during the summer
- If you will be shopping when you get to your destination save additional room in your suitcase or do as I do and carry a collapsable nylon bag that you can expand to load additional purchases for the journey home!
- Convert to plastic luggage like Rimowa; amazing the weight it can save you; less weight on baggage gives you more lbs. for all of your essentials
