This past week, Walmart made a major announcement that shook the fashion world: a proud Texan, “Project Runway” judge, and award-winning fashion designer to the stars, Brandon Maxwell, is now the empire’s new Creative Director. This is a significant moment in fashion where Brandon is able to change the game by offering chic, high-fashion styles for Walmart’s exclusive brands Free Assembly and Scoop at lower prices to customers across the country.
I’ve had the privilege of meeting and interviewing Brandon a few times and am a genuine fan, love his clothes. (See my interview with Brandon by clicking on link here https://www.myredglasses.com/brandon-maxwell
My special connection that I have always felt to Brandon Maxwell stems from his being from Longview, Texas, the East Texas town where my hubby Alan and his family spent some of his childhood. He and I discussed this during our Saks interviews. I’ve watched him grow over the years from Lady Gaga’s talented stylist to becoming a notable designer in his own right.
Most recently, Brandon dressed First Lady Dr. Jill Biden on first full day in office with an elongating custom fuchsia dress paired with strings of pearls. I adore Brandon and his clothes, so I had to dive right in when I heard the news of his big move. (Image in DropBox)
In a video explaining his decision to join Walmart, Brandon said,
“When I look at the common thread of my life… it’s that I’ve always been in search of a community that grounds me, that accepts me, and that I can give back to in the way that I know how. I have always wanted to dress America… with this new position at Walmart, I feel an incredible sense of privilege and responsibility. Everyone should have access to how special fashion can make you feel.”

In his new role as Creative Director, Brandon will oversee all aspects of Walmart’s latest Free Assembly and Scoop collections from start to finish, including seasonal collections for men, women, children, and accessories. Free Assembly is designed for more everyday essentials while Scoop is a trendier brand in-line with Brandon’s namesake fashion brand. His first collections will be available in Walmart stores across the country starting Spring 2022.
Since joining in 2017, Denise Incandela – executive vice president of the women’s group at Walmart who previously held executive positions at Saks Fifth Avenue, Ralph Lauren, and Aldo Shoes – has been working tirelessly to re-ignite the superstore’s fashion offerings. In adding Brandon Maxwell to the Walmart family, Incandela is raising the luxury level for potential new client acquisition.
If this is the first time you are learning about Brandon Maxwell, I highly encourage you to check out his designs here. The designer recently showcased his Spring 2021 Ready-to-Wear Collection and we could not be more in love.
