On Sunday, April 7 the Ninfa Laurenzo Scholarship Fund will host its second annual Tacos Over Texas, fundraising event at The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation in collaboration with El Tiempo Cantina. For those of you that did not attend last year’s event which raised more than $100,000 in its inaugural year, you missed a truly fun afternoon. The good news is that this year, it going to be back and bigger and better than ever.

This year’s event, will be chaired by Donna Davis with Honorary Chairs, Phyllis and Tony Mandola and Johnny and Randi Carrabba. It will once again, feature many of Houston’s top chefs who will be sharing their cooking skills in a friendly taco competition honoring the legacy of the dear, loving trailblazer, “Mama Ninfa” Laurenzo, who paved the way for Tex-Mex cuisine with her famous Tacos al Carbon.

New participants this year include Chris Shepherd’s One Fifth Houston, Ronnie Killen’s, Killen’s TMX, Ryan Lachaine’s Riel, Bosscat Kitchen & Libations, Poitin and others. Returning for a second year are many of last year’s contributors….The Original Ninfa’s, Cafe Annie, Gaitlin’s BBQ, El Tiempo, Laurenzos, Tony Mandola’s Gulf Coast Kitchen, Mia’s Table, Grace’s,Elliot’s Table and Chefs David and Michael Cordua plus more! The most fun tasting was to see the creations of those restaurants that are not typically Mexican fare. Each restaurant is challenged to create a taco inspired by Mama Ninfa, celebrating the history and transformation of Houston’s passion for multicultural food by adding their own unique flavors. Judging from last year’s offering, ALL of them were a treat to taste!
