SusieCakes’s First Houston Location Opens in Rice Village

Have a sweet tooth? Look no more! SusieCakes’ Grand Opening is December 9, 2017, Saturday, at 10am. Popular in the West Coast – they have finally opened their first location in Houston!

For those who are not familiar, SusieCakes is an “all-American, home-style bakery” serving delicious desserts from Six Layer chocolate, to Southern Red Velvet, to their popular classic Vanilla Celebration Cake. You can purchase by the slice and/or entire cake. There are other desserts as well such as cupcakes and cookies.

Growing up in Chicago, Susan Sarich, Susiecake’ Founder, would enjoy freshly baked treats that her two grandmothers, Mildred and Madeline who would bake daily. With fond childhood memories of baking with her grandmothers and 3×5’ recipe cards that were passed down from them, SusieCakes was born. Susan craved American sweets that were freshly made from scratch and with simple ingredients, not processed. The mission of  SusieCakes is “Connection though Celebration”, Sarich believes that “our celebration connects us to one another, and a delicious slice of cake can immediately bring a bit of celebration to even an ordinary day.”

As well as making quality desserts, Sarich also believes in “creating progressive career opportunities for women in hospitality and food service”. She noticed that many women by a certain age were starting to leave their career in order to start a family. However, why not have both? She developed a business model that supports a work/life balance that allows women to have both – by having hours and operational days different from the typical ones in hotels and restaurants.
