In Houston for Grand Opening celebration, direct from Amsterdam, greeting the festive crowd were VP, Nish de Gruiter and Founder & CEO, Fokke de Jong
If you were like me and wondering just what Suitsupply, that was taking the enormous space above Tootsies in West Ave, was all about, you are in for quite a treat when you visit. This Amsterdam based chain of men’s wear, primarily features high quality, European cut, off-the-rack tailored clothing made from the finest Italian fabrics with in-house seamstresses that can have you leaving with suiting or dressy casual wear that fits to perfection! All of this can be yours at very affordable prices as you shop inside this very open, yet defined space that feels very inviting and extremely fashionable. The complete package of large blow-ups of menswear styling, top notch merchandising and visuals and a group of very dapper sales staff are eager to greet you and assist you with your purchase.
This store is the 10th location in the United States and the first in Texas. When I asked why Houston, VP Nish de Gruiter responded that they have close to 50 stores worldwide and were focusing their efforts now on the United States and Asia. Says Nish, “when looking in Texas, we were fortunate to have already had a large online base in Houston that was already shopping with us, so coming here was a natural.” Plus he felt Houston to be a very international city where people like fashion and getting dressed well and were the right fit for their product.
Having once been over Visual Merchandising in my past life, I was totally enamored with their creatively tasteful approach to the presentation of their merchandise. The store was actually visually stimulating and could not help but entice you through their lifestyle approach to showing how to wear their different looks. One of my favorites was the Tuxedo Room. I also was so taken by their dress shirt wall and tie wall presentations that made me and I’m sure many others want to stop, look and purchase.
The Tuxedo Room
From their elegant Tuxedo Room, I was told about their Tux Package which included the Tuxedo, Shirt, Tie, Accessories and Shoes for a price of $800+. A slam-dunk for this city with our high level social activities and events.

The Suitsupply team were imported from the Netherlands in large numbers to prepare for and celebrate the grand opening of the Houston store. Aside from the owners, sales staff and styling experts were flown in to set up and train the local team for this happening. This dapper team (a word I keep using but does best describe this group from the owners, down the food chain!) were ready and poised to meet the large Houston crowd that came out pre-Christmas week for this party. Houstonians were taken by the genuine friendliness of the Suitsupply team, the delish party bites, lager beer and spirits and the DJ, rocking the tunes that made the party feel very much alive, while all the time, the seamstresses were busy working on their machines in the front of the store, a reminder of what they were all there to do…..sell custom-like European clothing, made to fit to perfection, even while you wait!
