SPF……The Best Age-Protection Beauty Product

Chelsi here and this morning, I asked my husband what the weather is like outside.  His response was, ‘hot, humid, Houston’.  Summer is here in all its glory and the sun is literally beating down on my skin.  I have already had a day where I stood outside a little too long with a friend (I’m chatty!) and got burned. 

Can you guess what the best age prevention product is?  Sunscreen! So often I am asked about how to reverse dark spots, reduce lines and wrinkles, pick up sagging skin, etc. The first product I suggest is a good SPF because no matter how much damage you have already done, start preventing future damage now! Sunscreens can come in a variety of forms and types, physical versus chemical sunscreens, that come down to ingredient differences.  Physical, aka mineral, sunscreens contain Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide and sit on the skin to create a barrier to block the UV rays and goes on with a heavier white cast.  Chemical sunscreens absorb and dissipate the UV rays but can apply much clearer on the skin.

I never leave the house without sunscreen on my face, neck and chest.  My arms, hands, and other exposed areas I need to get better about and make more time to apply protection.  Below are a few of my faves for all areas of the body. Best Under Makeup SPF

My every day, go-to SPF is the Supergoop Play SPF 50 Body Mousse.  The brand recently repackaged this product and added the word ‘body’ but I have been using it on my face for years.  It is an airy mousse so it absorbs quickly and easily, is very lightweight, and not at all greasy.  All to mean that this is the best daily SPF that is compatible with makeup – no breakdowns, smears or color changing due to a white cast. I apply it all over my face every morning and bring it down over my neck and chest for all day protection.

Best Lightweight SPF

The Elta MD UV Clear SPF 46 is lightweight sunscreen, an InStyle Best Beauty Buy, and great for skins that tend to breakout with thick and heavy sun blockers.  It contains sodium hyaluronate to moisturizer but also lactic acid to keep your pores clear and to keep any breakouts at bay. The SPF absorbs quickly and goes on clear – a win-win!

Best Sport SPF

Who better to develop a sunscreen than a professional tennis player with 7 Grand Slam titles and 4 Olympic gold medals?  Venus Williams just launched her new brand, EleVen, exclusively on credo.com.  The On-the-Defense SPF 30 has a sheer application with a semi-matte finish, which means your skin won’t have that slick feeling, which I love using when wearing sleeveless shirts.

Best Lip SPF

Let’s be honest, this little guy isn’t much to look at but I discovered him in a gift bag from a Cosmetic Executive Women event.  O’Keeffe’s Lip Repair SPF 35 is amazing!  It glides on with a buttery feel, provides a great sun protection, but it also smooths out my lip lines.  My lips look fuller when I have this on which is an amazing added bonus!

Best Hand SPF

They say you can always tell the true age of a women by her hands….um, I’m not going to fall for that!  What we don’t realize is how much our hands are exposed to the sun.  Just think of all those hours you spend in the car with your hands on the steering wheel – sun exposure at its sneakiest!    I love the Lancome Absolue Premium BX Hand SPF 15 to help protect my hands and keep this in my car or handbag. It is great to touch up when you find yourself in the sun but it also helps to reverse any age spots that may already be present.

Best Makeup SPF

For some, applying a daily SPF and then makeup is not their thing, especially during the Summertime when we have abandoned Foundation for lighter coverage.  If you want to have a 1-stop makeup plus SPF product, look no further than the OG, holy grail, million-time award winning Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer.  I was lucky to be at Mercier when this product launched and boy, did it set the world on fire!  It gives lightweight coverage, comes in 20 shades and leaves a dewy finish on the skin.  A true do it all!
