As I sit here in my hotel in Firenze, Italy, I am thinking of my own city and all of the devastation that so many friends and family of mine are still having to deal with. It is amazing how many questions and genuine concern for Houston I have heard from people here in Italy over the last couple of weeks. Because I am here, I unfortunately am unable to attend what my fashion friends have managed to pull together for this Sunday. I will be there in spirit and also have fashion blogger and contributor Kristen Byrd there for MyRedGlasses.
So, as Houston is still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and will be for a very long time, the Houston fashion community, under the leadership of fashion show producers extraordinaire Tamara Klosz Bonar and Lenny Matuszewski is coming together with an event that you will not want to miss —SALUTE Houston— one night…one party…one runway…to raise funds for three very deserving non-profit organizations who need our help.
The 100 Club provides financial support to the dependents of law enforcement officers and firefighters who are killed or catastrophically injured in the line of duty in 32 counties surrounding Houston.
Houston Children’s Charity is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Greater Houston’s underprivileged, abused and disabled children who have been otherwise left behind.
Houston Pet Set provides grants to Houston area animal non-profits. Their goal is to help those who are “in the trenches” on a daily basis, rescuing, neutering, fostering, adopting, and protecting Houston’s homeless, neglected and abused animal population.
Our very compassionate and talented friends, Lenny and Tamara have put together a fabulous event and an amazing fashion show which will include first responders, community leaders, and professional models. They have solicited help from caring businesses and individuals to amass a completely underwritten event so every dollar will go to the three organizations listed above. Wow! Isn’t Houston just the best city in the world!!!
