This week, British Designer, Roland Mouret was in town at Neiman Marcus Galleria as they hosted a casual luncheon trunk show. It was a lovely mid-day gathering where many ladies, who-don’t-just-lunch, were able to chat with the very warm, personable designer who mingled with us all before we were treated to a lovely sit down luncheon and show of his latest designs. He featured many of the looks that were brought in exclusively for Neiman Marcus from his current Fall and upcoming Resort/Spring 2020 collections. The group was comprised mostly of his best customers and others that became his clients after seeing his very texture-rich and wearable collection of lots of great dresses, his signature, but also including some wonderful sportswear pieces as well…..beautiful blouses and greatly designed trousers.

About the Designer…
Born in France, this designer is a self-taught guy. As it says on his website, “Roland Mouret’s journey has been an unlikely route to being among the best-loved names in British fashion…not least because he is French.” He began as a country boy in rural France who escaped to Paris and then ultimately to London.
I’ve always been this double person. My clothes are for a city city life yet in the wools and textures of the countryside…..Many of my clients have shaped their own lives yet they tend to have a strong sense of their roots, an honest ambition to move ahead yet with a love of where they come from.
After ten years of living in Paris by night, while working by day as a model, stylist and art director, Mouret moved to London. He had no formal training, but he knew he had the precision to cut, the skill to drape and the courage to combine the two. “A change of country ignited a new flame; a wish to create a fashion collection,” says Mouret. So, in 1997, Mouret took some fabric, which he loves to feel and to drape, and inspired by his own “greats”, Azzedine Alaia and Yohji Yamamoto, worked tirelessly to create a signature that was his own.
The Galaxy Dress, introduced in 2005 and still available today, proved to establish his signature. “The Galaxy; it’s a bit like having your first Number 1 chart hit,” says Mouret. While famous for his dresses…..also including the Titanium, the Moon, the Pignalle, the Brenin and numerous other red carpet hits…..he is also celebrated for separates, specifically tops and trousers that flatter. His brand has expanded to include fragrance, eyewear, shoes, bags, acessories and bridal.
