The custom Pearl Dress (6,000 pearls) that Lupita Nyong’o wore was so very non-Calvin Klein like but truly a work of art, Margot Robbie in a Saint Laurent gown and Van Cleef & Arpels jewels, and Reese Witherspoon in black and white tailored gown by Tom Ford, accompanied by Tiffany jewels……..these three were among my very favorites of the night!
Oscar night is always looked at with much anticipation….maybe too much by all of us in the fashion world that follow all of the Award Shows expecting this one to be the best of the best. I think all would agree that while last night did not have many disastrous looks it also did not have many WOWs either. Safe is the way that both the stars and designers are appearing to go these days! I have chosen to show you only the dresses that I liked…I’ll leave the misses to others.
Fashion was not to be outdone by the show itself which was tough to keep everyone in my group’s interest for the entire broadcast. It’s over now as the Oscars end it all…..maybe next year we can hope for more excitement in every aspect!
Anna Kendrick in coral Thakoon and Emma Stone in acid green Elie Saab couture
Cate Blanchett wearing a gown from John Galliano who has just resurfaced for Maison Martin Margiela, her statement necklace by Tiffany’s was of turquoise, aquamarine and diamonds and Renee Russo, who I have always loved to see and haven’t for awhile was on the carpet in White (a big color of the evening) in J. Mendel
Julianne Moore in custom Chanel personally designed by Karl for her for this evening and featuring many embellishments hand-sewn by numerous Chanel seamstresses, with Chopard jewelry and Sienna Miller in Peter Copping’s Oscar de la Renta
Viola Davis in elegant blush Zac Posen and Gwyneth Paltrow, always remembered for her luscious Oscar win in Ralph Lauren Pink made another pink statement in Ralph & Russo Couture with rose at her shoulder
Rosamund Pike in custom Givenchy Couture red lace classic style and Jennifer Hudson in one of the buzz colors of Spring, Canary Yellow Romona Keveza dress and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry
Jennifer Lopez in a romantic Haute Couture Elie Saab ball gown with plunging neckline, and Marion Cotillard in a Dior Couture white sequined gown with gathering in the back
Ladies who strummed up much attention last night on the social media waves….Lady Gaga in custom Azzedine Alaïa, complete with Red rubber gloves and accents, performed a show-stopper tribute to Sound of Music. Also setting the online social on fire was the mother-and-daughter duo who did not exactly seem to agree on watching Dakota’s new film, Fifty Shades of Grey?! Dakota Johnson is wearing Red Saint Laurent with ForeverMark jewelry with her mom Melanie Griffith in Roland Mouret.
Music Couples that rocked the carpet….Behati Prinsloo in Armani Prive with hubby Adam Levine in Giorgio Armani, and Chrissy Teigen in soft blue Zuhair Murad with her hubby John Legend in Gucci, who also along with Common did an amazing job with his “Glory” performance
The guys are looking for fashion for the Red Carpet. Neal Patrick Harris made four changes each more stylish than the next as well as many others. However for me, I like the sophistication of a dark look on a man….Eddie Redmayne in Navy and Black Alexander McQueen and Chris Pine in Fred Leighton black velvet with satin lapels were two of my favorites.
