Oh My, My…Milan Fashion Week Was Magical!

As you all know Italy is a place near and dear to the heart of MRG! But for a week each season, the city of Milan takes the spotlight off of pasta and wine and moves it to something else we love to indulge in…fashion! Milan Fashion Week never fails to amaze every year, and this Spring/Summer 2020 season followed suit. From Picasso inspired runway art to safari-ready couture, Milan Fashion Week had it all!

The theme of the show? Solar Mood. Inspired by Silvia Venturini Fendi‘s feelings about “this period of year”. She explains how it makes “you feel more liberated and relaxed than at any time, and you have that feeling of being ready for new experiences”. This liberation is seen in the Fendi Spring/Summer 2020 show through flirty hemlines and floral prints. However with this feeling of excitement towards new experiences also comes excitement for the next season! Velvety fabrics and fur detailing, balanced with sheer skirts and plunging necklines, is the perfect ode to transitioning from summer to fall!

Moschino

While Moschino has always seemed to go for the whole “wearable art” form of fashion, creative director, Jeremy Scott, took it a little more literal for the Spring/Summer 2020 show! Scott is always one to commit fully to a themed runway, and this season he chose none other than Pablo Picasso as his muse. Translating two-dimensional paintings into three-dimensional pieces, this was arguably the most attention-grabbing show of the week! Needless to say, Moschino added even more evidence as to why fashion should always be seen as art!

Prada

Held in the the famed Italian house’s museum, Fondazione, Prada debut its show-stopping Spring/Summer 2020 collection! With the likes of Nicole Kidman and Wes Anderson sitting front-row, dreamy look after look floated down the runway. Pastel hues complimented neutral tones all put together in chic pairings. The collection transported us through generations. A touch of seventies hippie, a splash of fifties femininity, topped off with sleek modernity. There was an air of cool that increased with every look that only a Prada girl could create!

Want to know who to thank for the creation of Google Images? Well, look no further than Italy’s boundary-pushing fashion child…Versace! For the Spring/Summer 2020 collection, Donatello Versace took us back to a simpler time. A time we have to thank for so many pivotal pop-culture fashion moments! Taking a break from the brands signature in-your-face branding, this season was different. Donatello took inspiration from that iconic J.Lo Grammy dress moment (you know which one we’re talking about) giving us the sexiest and sleekest Versace runway we have seen in a while! Gucci

Talk about girl on the go! At Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2020 show, models glided down the runway via conveyer belt! The king of unconventional, Alessandro Michele, debuted his collection in one of the most Gucci settings possible. Imagine a stark white room looking like a mix of a hospital and an airport terminal. The backdrop for the show was the perfect contrast for the collection full of bright colors, classic Gucci prints, and lots of bling! But it wouldn’t be a Michele for Gucci show without making the crowd a little bit uncomfortable. The grand finale, you ask? A line of straight-jacket-clad models closed out the show. No questions asked, Gucci knows how to make a statement!

Dolce & Gabbana

It was a safari centered dream land at Dolce and Gabbana for their Spring/Summer 2020 collection! So many styles, so many looks (120!), so little time, but they made it work. Utilitarian khaki, delicate macrame, sexy black, neon-accented tropical print! There’s no argument they know how to stick to a theme! Safari chic is simply like no other, and this runway definitely stuck out among the rest. Seems as if it might be time to book a trip (and do a little shopping)!
