New news on the local shopping front…Events, a longtime River Oaks area gift-given haven has resurfaced this week with a new owner, Regina Garcia, former Vice President/General Manager of the recently closed Macy’s Downtown store. This Houston institution since its opening in 1987 has filled many of the needs of the luxury gift, stationary, seasonal and in recent years, fashion accessories for us all. Regina, who I have known as a fellow Foley’s/Macy’s alumn has a key eye for merchandising, great taste and ensures that she will keep the history of Events direction in tact….with maybe a few modifications. Of course, her goals are to upgrade the technology end…we may see their own shopping app and a big desire for her is to showcase local artists and jewelers, a wave that is taking the city by storm these days and thrills me!
When we spoke, she was already planning her NYC gift show trips and a venture across the pond to Milano to find very special items for the store. I’m a little jealous on that one but offers of my assistance are unneeded I’m sure. I know Reg and know she knows what she is doing! So exciting things should lie ahead for this store, always a fav of mine and I can hardly wait to see the “Regina touch” on this wonderful shopping institution!
