Navy is Back as Fall’s Newest Neutral

 

Navy for this season is definitely the New Neutral.  Dare I say it’s the new Black? It isn’t, it’s the New Navy and Black is still there as strong as ever. Navy, a personal favorite of mine, will not replace Black in my wardrobe, but will take on a life of its own. In fact, if you really want to show off the return of this favorite color in its newest, most sophisticated way, do as the Europeans began a few seasons back and wear it WITH Black.  It also looks new and fresh popped with the brightness of white or a hot fall hue or wear it mono-chromatically head-to-toe!

Donna Karan:  a designer that has never walked away from Navy in her collections and started the Blue/Black idea years ago.

Accessorize: Classic pump from Andrew Berman, Miu Miu studded bag and new Navy Studded Wrap Watch from LaMer, available on Shopbop.

St. John’s: For casual chic with a simple white t-shirt for brightness.

Tory Burch: This designer has always had Navy in her collections and stated here last Spring her fondness for the Navy/Black combo, done here in Fall Tweeds.

Versace and J. Crew: Leather dresses began last Fall and are still all the rage this season, very new in Navy from Versace.  J.Crew takes a Navy organza full skirt and teams it with a simple black t-neck for a sophisticated separates look.

Equipment and Kendra Scott: Two of the hottest items around this year have been the Equipment Blouse and the Kendra Scott earrings that you see on every stylish young lady.  Both have been re-colored to reflect the season’s newest hue!  I would team the Equipment blouse with the perfect pencil skirt or leather pant and the K. Scott earring will go with everything…that’s the point!

Zac Posen: for evening, Navy will be the newest alternative to black; this gown is in gradations of deep blues from the darkest midnight to the bright, bold but rich cobalt at the hemline…shades of blue looks so fresh!

Manolo Blahnik and Judith Leiber: Evening accessories that compliment Navy are in the same color family but offer a pop of brightness.  The single sole BB pump from MB in an array of colors is one of THE shoes of the season….I see multiple purchases here for me! (Manolo Blahnik trunk show this week at Neiman Marcus Houston Galleria; must stop in to see all of the extras that the Blahnik people will be bringing for the show!)

Monique Lhuillier: An entrance maker for any gala or special occasion with more of these tones to be seen in her collection. Also, don’t miss her as the event-closer for Fashion Houston in November and at Neiman Marcus the next day,  when she brings her Spring 2013 Collection to town.
