Hi there, Francene back today filling you in on the latest and greatest in nail trends for the spring and summer seasons. Whether you’re into the neutral shades, bold colors, shimmer, or nail art, I’ve covered it all, so keep reading for everything you need to know about fashion at your fingertips!
According to Mintel, a London-based market research firm that I came across while browsing the web says that nail polish is outselling lipstick for the first time, could that really be true?! Not sure, but nail color and nail fashion options, in general, have definitely picked up in fashion news of late. (After all, even award shows now do a “mani-cam” to show off celebrities nail fashions on the Red Carpet!) Last year stores were shifting around one million bottles per week as sales shot up by 7%. I’m not surprised by this, nail polish is one of the most fabulous ways us girls can truly express ourselves. We subconsciously pick colours depending on our moods or life situations.
Experiment at home with the latest trends, or spoil yourself to a manicure or pedicure. It is spring break after all! I have picked out the biggest Spring Nail Polish Trends for this year to take us beautifully into Summer. Most of these polishes can be bought directly from their websites or if you like to see lots of options in front of you head to Macy’s, Neiman’s or Sephora, where the selections are endless.
A few styling tips: I’m the sort of a gal who likes to mix it up between my toe colour and fingers. I like to use colours of the similar group, so if you have pastel toes then continue this look throughout but using either a contrasting colour or similar. Shades of reds, pinks and oranges work well together….and be bold this summer and do a clear white, particularly on your toes, you’ll love how it makes your feet look all nice and tan!
Matte Finish
Deviate from the popular gloss finish and take your nails up a notch with matte polish. Try it in black and create contrast with glossy tips, or add a thin metallic stripe or two in gold or bronze. Add a few midi-rings for a totally chic manicure. The ultimate in beauty luxury, a non-shiny polish is a nail trend that is still going strong. From black to white and everything in-between, try out OPI’s Matte top coat on your polishes at home. I use this product all the time and absolutely love it.

The Nudes
Made cool by Chanel a couple of years ago, the greige craze is finally much more accessible to those of us who tried and failed to get their hands on this trend – get the look from Rimmel, or Essie has just launched a neutrals collection with a shade to suit every skin tone. It’s subtle sophistication in a bottle. Michael Kors has extended their range throughout the fashion industry, from someone who rarely changes nail products from old faithful like OPI and Nail Inc., Michael Kors has brought out a stunning collection of warm nudes. Oscar de la Renta’s nail technician for the spring catwalk colour-matched polishes to their models skin-tones. Cooly understated. This was also seen across runways with Donna Karen & Michael Kors.

The French Manicure Update
Choose a contemporary twist on the classic French manicure and swap white tips for cool metallic or bright pastels, or any colour really! Or reverse the French Manicure by painting your nail one colour and painting your nail moon’s another like an upside down French manicure! Cute fun and classy.

Perfect Pastels
Pastels are dominating shop windows as they see us through from last year’s winter trend to spring and summer. Pale lilacs and blues work well with a paler complexion, whereas cool corals and pinks pop with a tan. Nothing will add more touch of flair to your nails in spring than a pastel nail varnish. Look for inspiration in a classical ballet. The OPI Hawaii Spring/Summer 2015 Collection has just recently hit the streets! From soft and muted shades to more bolds and brights, this collection has a number of gorgeous shades that will go perfectly with your SS15 wardrobe. There are a total of 12 shades in the collection. Dolce & Gabbana has a gorgeous array of spring colours including a perfect pastel pink. Essie also has 6 shades that will brighten up your toes and fingers this spring. My obsession is ‘back in the limo.’

Just because the festive season has finished doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun with shimmering, glittering and metallic nail colours! Combine different glittery accents with pastel shades for a more wearable daytime result. Gold to me is timeless; my jewelry collection is a shrine to gold colours so gold is usually my ‘go-to’ colour after Nude. The glittering gold means a brilliant finishing touch that acts like jewelry for your nails. Rich and glossy, a gold nail varnish brings a luxurious new brilliance to your fingertips.

White Polish
Nail the winter white trend with spring’s snowy white polish. White nails have been all the rage since Spring 2013 and judging from Tibi and Erin Fetherston runways, this trend is by far keeping center stage. For some of you, white nails can be a revolutionary invention, but the fact is that it is not new to the fashion scene, ranging right back. Today, choose a full-coverage nail varnish and feel free to add some dots and lines to align this trend with another one, such as pastels. Victoria Beckham has become one of the latest celebrities as she continues to conquere the fashion world, by bringing out two very well presented shades, red and white.

So, as you can see, there’s a lot going on in the world of nail polish, and I’m loving every bit of it. Have fun with your nails and change the colours up as much as you’d like. It’s a very simple way to add a fun fashion element to any outfit you choose to put on or make any occasion special!

Can you please tell me what brand and colors were used on the grey french manicure with the light pink tips? Thank you!
Hi Desiree! So sorry we don’t have that information. We thought it was so beautiful, too, but we’d recommend something like Essie’s ‘Chinchilly’ with Essie’s ‘Fiji.’ Hope this helps!
