Another week of many great events and once again I didn’t make it to all that I had planned (apologies to Gabrielle Dror and Lisa Holthouse for missing). Allergies and this unseasonably cool weather set me back a night.
However, there was still lots going on and many that I did see. Here they are for me to share….
Amir Taghi Atelier Spring/Fall Showing…..3/30/13
Local designer Amir Taghi celebrated the beginning of Spring with a showing of his Spring and Fall 2013 collections with a showing at his family home on Saturday, March 30th. This 17 year old Episcopal High School student has shown a love of fashion from a very early age. He expanded his desire to take his passion into the designer world with the creation of his label in April of 2012.
Spring 2013 is inspired by the Persian Buttercup, reflected in tones of pink, lavender and fuschia with soft touches of femininity and romance. Fall 2013 is inspired by dark and light…sleek silhouettes in shades of Charcoal, Ivory and Midnight Blue. Beautiful collection, many pieces I would wear! Astros Opening Night….Sunday, March 31st.
Sunday night was a fun-filled evening, watching the Astros begin their first season in the American League and beating the Texas Rangers 8-2. We were fortunate to be invited to the Owner’s Box where we were able to indulge on hotdogs and ice cream sundaes while we cheered our all new team on and hang with the likes of J.J. Watt (threw out the opening pitch) and Lyle Lovett (sang National Anthem), as well as many good friends such as Janet Gurwitch, Ron Franklin, Sheridan and John Eddie Williams, the Cranes, the Bill Whites, the Planks and many more. Best Dressed Luncheon and Emilio Pucci Fashion Show….April 3.
Neiman Marcus and Houston Chronicle for the 31st year hosted the Best Dressed Luncheon benefiting March of Dimes and being chaired this year by Jana Arnoldy with special guest, Pucci designer, Peter Dundas. Congrats to all of the honorees, who all stepped out of the box this year with an edgier twist for their fashion runway choices. Designers such as Mary Katrantzou on Greggory Burk, Barbara Bui on Lisa Holthouse, Peter Pilotto on Stephanie Cockrell. Kaufman Franco on Rosemary Schatzman and Melissa Mithoff in Pucci. Susan Krohn wore Giambattista Valli, Sima Ladjevardian in Lanvin, Tiffany Smith in Max Mara, Isabel David in Givenchy and Merle Yarborough, entering Hall of Fame, in a dress by Kevan Hall who also was her table guest for the event. The Emilio Pucci Fall 2013 Fashions were over the top, stunning. An amazing collection that must be visited online to see in its entirety. It was so invigorating to watch one magnificent look after another come down the runway.
Atrium Boutique Opening….April 4.
Luvi Wheelock with the help of her friends, Karen Mayell, Greggory Burk, Allie Fields and others opened her newest door, Atrium RTW Boutique in River Oaks Shopping Center (Casa de Novia opened its new space two weeks ago). There for the opening and showing a selection from both her Spring and Fall collections was up-and-coming designer, Sally LaPointe (seen above, lower right with yours truly), recently named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 to watch. Her designs were sleek and exquisitely sophisticated. She will be there for a trunk show through Friday and will be in stock at Atrium in the Fall. Sally and her collection are available now on Bergdorf’s 3rd floor in NYC and soon to be exclusive here with Luvi. I absolutely loved it!
Such a fun week!! xo, Julie
