It was Haute, Haute, Haute in Paris for Couture Week!

Couture WeekAs we wrapped up our July 4th festivities, Parisians and worldwide fashionistas wrapped up their time at Haute Couture Week in Paris. Thirty-four of the most skilled and adored designers debuted their Autumn/Winter 2018-2019 collections at a number of locales just as fancy as their works of art!

While Penelope Cruz cuddled up to Karl Lagerfeld, we cuddled up to our trusty laptops to provide us with the closest thing we could get to front row. But before we dive into our favorite couture creations we need to go over some basics as to what exactly Haute Couture week means to all of you fashion lovers and fashion followers out there.

I know that I may be preaching to the choir on this but just to be clear……First off, the name. Haute Couture literally translates into “high sewing”, so you know these pieces are of only the utmost quality from the most skilled ateliers! Because of this, only the design houses at the tippy-top of the fashion pyramid are approved by the most paramount gatekeeper- Syndical Chamber for Haute Couture. This commission regulates (by law!) which houses are truly and authentically haute couture. Once accepted, these select few are expected to release a minimum of two haute couture collections a year,  showing in January and July.

From the fabulously feminine to the just straight-up outrageous, we have created our own Sparknotes de Couture to give you the highlights of the most buzz worthy shows. We love to follow these collections/shows twice a year as the designers show us how they channel their most creative thoughts into magical works of artistic genius!
