It’s the first Monday in May again, and the Met Gala is back on schedule! Influencers, musicians, models, and movie stars take the Red Carpet. Co-chairs Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Regina King along with Honorary Chairs Anna Wintour and Tom Ford hosted a spectacular evening.
The theme this year was “Gilded Glamour”, in recognition of the Metropolitan Museum’s current Costume Institute exhibition opening this Saturday to the general public. Also, it should be noted that this year’s evening was also in dedication to Vogue’s former Creative Director and Editor-at-Large, André Leon Talley a key supporter, along with Anna Wintour, of this event. Aside from being memorialized this past week, Talley’s memory was very much present amongst many of his friends and colleagues, in the event that he helped create.
The theme of this annual fundraising event for the Met/Costume Institute is actually a continuation of last year’s event, celebrating The Costume Institute’s exciting exhibition focused on exploring American fashion. Part one, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” opened in September of 2021 and part two, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” opens later this week. The exhibit is focused on the Gilded Age in New York City from 1870-1890. It is said to address issues of social justice, identity and diversity through its curation that’s meant to “illustrate the shifting tides of American fashion,” according to the Met’s director Max Hollein.
You can find both of these shows in NYC until September 5, 2022. Take a look back at September 2021’s Met Gala here.
It is a story of innovation and ingenuity, of rebellion and renewal… It has often been written by those in the shadows, not recognized for their influence and art, but here at the Met their stories are told.

Now a look at the fashions of the night, of which there were many to choose from. I have chosen to only highlight some of my personal favorites and have grouped them in a way that I feel best to see the trends. Also, for a real treat, take note of the total package…….hair and beauty, accessories and jewelry like no other.
Trend Note: A special takeaway for me, was the numerous gowns of the evening, that were accessorized with Opera-length Gloves….they were plentiful on the carpet and I loved them!
If you wish to view the full collection of over 150+ of the best fashions of the night, I encourage you to visit www.vogue.com.
