For All The Moms You Are…

So it’s that time of year once again, when we look for the perfect small token to show Mom just how much we appreciate her and all that she does and means to us in our lives. The gift options are a-plenty as Moms are people too and have so many different interests, tastes, and as a Mom I can say, like just about anything their child gives them on this day…..there is no other day that is as much “about the thought” than this designated day for Moms.

There are so many options that I truly have a tough time narrowing down just what I would suggest if anyone was to ask me what to get this special person in their lives.  It could be the tried and trues…..a simple hand-written card, her favorite flower (I always like that one!) or a family meal.  Those are givens, but because there are so many choices out there for all of the interests in a Mom’s life, I’ve broken down my suggestions for this year into all the different Moms you can be or decide to be…….FOR ALL THE MOMS YOU ARE!

 

The Busy Mom: (who isn’t??!

For the BUSY Mom on the go, what can be a better time-saver than to be able to drop into Do Bar at West Ave., and get that quick blow-dry before a luncheon or night out. So simple and so reasonable for such a convenience.  Since being fast-on-her feet is a necessity, these Elaine Turner flip flops in all the newest fashion hues keep her running.  Needing a cultural fix…make it dual purpose. If a trip to MFAH is on her list of cultural things she must take in, reminder, there is also a great Gift Shop there where she can purchase just about anything including this unique fashion stone necklace.  Lastly, if Mom can fit it in, let’s ensure she takes a well-deserved break.  What a better pick-me-up than a quick power nap, and this little eye mask from More Than You Can Imagine is just the touch to keep that light away,give her some snooze time and she can wake up refreshed and ready for several more hours of doing for all!

The Modern Fashion Mom:

 

Nothing says fashion like Color this season and these turquoise earrings from Kendra Scott, one of the many hues that is part of what her collection is all about.  Since accessories  are the easiest to purchase for Mom for the holiday, let us also suggest:  a colorful handbag from L.K. Bennett, Kate Middleton’s fave accessories store in England that has recently hit America at the Houston Galleria near Saks.   Ippolita jewelry also found in Neiman’s, Neiman Studio and Saks has a broad assortment of brightly colored stones designed to wear as multiples.  How about this one of many Iphone cases from Tory Burch. I chose this one because it was called Roslyn, named for me, I am sure, right, Tory?!  The accessories choices are endless……Jewelry is always a popular #1 and easy give to Mom, particularly earrings…..can never have too many!

The Techie Mom:

 

No matter if she is tech-savvy or a tech-novice, fashion your Mom with some of the newest high-tech gadgets that will simplify her life.  How about the new Polaroid camera that is back…love it!  Always popular the first time around, I wasn’t even aware that they were back and that would be high on my want list! (hear that Pactor girls?!)

My favorite new tech toy that I am actually using in Red, of course, is the Pop-Up phone from Moshi Moshi that comes in great colors and literally pops into your cellphone for much better reception…great for those conference-calls-on-the-go; available at Kuhl-Linscomb for a great price. ($30ish) Everyone needs an Ipad and also an Ipad case and this one, unique from the same ones we’ve been seeing,  from Elaine Turner caught my eye, in CORK, a trend of the season.  I just liked this one because it was the newest one out there, but are available in every bold color, metallics, leather and Apple chrome. And how cool is this mobile printer that just clicks on to your cellphone…take a photo of a special friend or fam. and give it to them right there on the spot!  I love it!

The Gourmet Mom:

 

How better to celebrate Mom and give her a  cooking break than gathering for brunch/lunch or dinner at one of her fave dining spots.  Tony’s, or for more casual fare there’s Ciao Bello, Tasting Rooms (they’re all over the city, just choose one closest to you, and BTW, check their menus online as they vary by location)  are some great choices for this holiday.  Also, if your Mom just loves to cook, and chooses to that , this new cookbook, created appropriately by the love of a Mom for her son,  Green Beans and Guacamole, which benefits The Arc of Katy, a local charity, and is splashed full of beautiful photography by our town’s talented, Julie Soefer.  Also, if you want to give Mom some time for dining for herself, it’s always great to give dining gift certificates from any of the places she loves to munch!

The Sweet Mom: (aren’t we all??!)

As if she isn’t sweet enough, why not shower her,  just for today, in some of her fave sweet delights!  Leave it to the Lauren family (Dylan and Lauren Bush-Lauren) to come up with some great sweets for the sweet.  Dylan’s Candy Bar has a jewelry box (shown)  filled with candied jewels for Mom, and Lauren, always driven by her cause,  has partnered with Godiva on these taste treats that when purchased, come partnered with another version of Lauren’s famous FEED Bag.  If you love a great cake, many of the social events in town have been featuring these wonderfully tasty Nothing Bundt Cake bundt cakes and they are to die for, available in a host of flavors.   When all else fails, a quick pick-up at Sprinkles Cupcakes will always put a smile on Mom’s face!

The Fit Mom:

 

Since staying fit is the rage for Moms of all ages, you must help her throw away those old t-shirts from her many activities as well as those $5 leggings. Chic Gym Gear is definitely the trend of the season to replace those old sweats and gym shorts.  Fashion Sneakers are available everywhere, in every color and are far from being basic.  This fashion footwear  also looks great for accessorizing street wear,and going out.  They are so  not just for exercising any more).  On the fashion apparel side, Spanx has proven that they don’t just help you suck it in, they can also help you take it off with their new line of active wear, and fashion has definitely hit the streets and tennis courts with Stella McCartney for Addodas adding her hip touch to sports apparel, available at Luke’s Locker and Neiman’s.

The Pamperd Mom:

Pampered and Mom are not two words used often in the same sentence.  However, what better way to show you care and appreciate her than to give her a few simple things that can enrich her life, even a little.  Clarisonic, the cleaning machine that can be found just about everywhere now is my very favorite beauty gadget and I know it does great things to my skin.  Molton Brown (that I love to use, makes wonderful bath products, lotions and yummy candles to help Mom for those relaxing baths, she rarely has time to take. Define Studio, which has been a favorite work-out destination on San Felipe has just opened a new location on Bissonett, just off Kirby, where  many of we inner-loopers can partake. After all, who needs a stress reliever more than Mom and a work-out will do it every time.  Lastly, pamper her with fragrance, always a sure winner. I’ve shown the new Prada Candy which is delish and looks like Mother’s Day to me, but if you know her favorite, that’s a choice you should make……after all, smelling divine can make all of her worries go away! (for the moment, most Mom’s have worrying in their DNA!)
