Weekend Edition: The Many Looks of Denim

It’s Back-to-School time everywhere and if you are shopping for that reason or not, the first transitional trend we all look to to start the season off is “what’s new in denim for Fall?”. Well, as a denim lover I did my homework (I was always such a good student!!!) and researched what all the Jeans Geniuses were saying and there was plenty to be said…..don’t remember a Fall season when I’ve received more emails about this All-American Staple, than I have in the last several weeks. Below are many of our findings……The Blues News, which we have highlighted for you here and have actually categorized below (what can I say, I spent 30 years in retail, so I think in categories, categories, categories, especially when you are talking about wardrobe basics like Denim items.)

Overall Trends (no pun intended as the return of O’s are one of the newest trends of the season!)

The big news every year is just what is happening with the different fits…..as Bloomingdales says in one of their ads…jeans this year range from the High & Mighty to the Worn-with-Love. There are 3 Major Trends in Denim Jeans this Fall, whose goals are to slim our waist, lengthen our legs and shape our tushy, a lot to ask but here they are: High-Waisted Skinny, Distressed/Worn/Ripped and Relaxed or Boyfriend jeans. Wear them in your choice of blue finishes, jewel tone color or patchwork if that’s your look and you will see much of the styling to be a rolled cuff to show off your newest pair of booties! Picking your jeans is all about the fit that makes you feel most comfortable and confident. I love the comment from Jonny Johnson, founder of Acne Jeans who says that the basic 5-pocket jean that Levi made famous is the “Coca-Cola of Denim” and has built his line from starting with Levi’s 501’s!

The general look is denim all-over from head to toe, which makes Chambray Shirts a must-have in all closets. Jean jackets are back at all lengths with one of the newest looks coming in is the jean coat or Cowboy Coat as we’ve called it here for years. Love that look! Pencil skirts are hot and Denim Dresses are a must add-on for your wardrobes. The newest news is that Overalls are back but these are not straight from the farm, but are styled up, sexier than ever and look great with heels, booties and layered!

Denim For Accessorizing

Lastly, don’t forget that denim is catching on as the fabric for accessorizing everything from your head-to-toe denim look, to your moto leathers to the couch in your home. Denim handbags, shoes/booties/flats, cuff bracelets and other jewelry pieces, hats and countless accents to your home decor. Denim fabric, founded by Levi Strauss, the man, many years ago has proven to be the number one All-American fabric with endless uses…..got to love it!
