One of the season’s biggest trends from the Fall Runways was the dominance in all categories….apparel, shoes, handbags…of Color-Blocking. What exactly is Color-Blocking? It’s a mix of the season’s important colors either with each other or with a neutral to make for an interesting non-print, usually geometric, pattern. It can also be for you, the customer, the easier route to take when you can’t decide if you love any one color enough to wear it head-to-toe, so you choose a mix of either your favorites or a neutral, that gets more life and style in the garment through the partnering with at least one pop of color?
A word of advice here is that Color-Blocking does not work on everyone, in fact, I don’t feel that I am someone that wears this trend well and must be very selective in my choices. However, if selected properly, it can add some interest to a very solid wardrobe or a sophisticated addition to lots of prints/patterns and can be flattering, even slimming, if the blocking is chosen correctly for your body type.
Reminder: Color-blocking can be seen as another way of wearing stripes, so choose width and placement wisely to optimize your figure.
Styling tips: Keep it as simple as possible, particularly if for the work place. For the office, best if mix is of color and neutrals. Accessories should be simple and solid to compliment the apparel and vice versa…a little bit of color-blocking can go a long way! Keep the bright color mixing for fun, personal times.
If color-mixing is your thing, you will enjoy this Fall trend. It is an option for you to maximize your creativity in making your selections.
