Cattle Baron’s Ball…..My First Cowgirl Outing and Such A Fun Night

Getting dressed in Western gear was not something I do often, but when I was invited to attend the Cattle Baron’s Ball benefiting American Cancer Society, which I had heard so much about for years but never attended, I was excited to make it there this year and also to purchase all of the accessory items, my first hat, and do it right, thanks to Pinto Ranch. What fun I had with that!

The crowd was about 1,300 partygoers that donned their favorite cowboy boots and hats for the 2019 Cattle Baron’s Ball “City Lights & Bayou Nights” at the George Ranch Historical Park. It was presented, as always, by VICTORY, the volunteer branch of the American Cancer Society, annually, which this year raised $1.58 million towards the fight to cure cancer.

“Strawberry Wine” singer Deana Carter provided the entertainment as the guests enjoyed Las Vegas-style gaming, midway games, a wine pull, a whiskey pull, fine jewelry raffle by Zadok Jewelers, VICTORY Shoppes and a General Store and even pig races (sorry I missed that) and of course, some great dancing……..all there under one enormous tent.

The food for the evening was truly a feast…..all provided by Pappas Catering. Stations were throughout where we were able to munch on everything from brisket tamales, crab cakes, tacos, an avocado bar and much more. All the while guests were able to browse the big-board and silent auction items for some amazing things or participate in the live auction which raised more than $350,000 in the fight against cancer.

The evening ended with the six-time Vocal Group of the Year, Diamond Rio, performing their chart-topping hits, including “Meet in the Middle” and after the final encore guests were able to grab late night bites from Whataburger, of course, for that ride home! It was an evening of great fun with people who loved having fun while raising money for a great cause!
