Buttermilk Baby Grand Opening: A Sweet Celebration of Nostalgia and Innovation

The Heights has a new culinary darling, and its name is Buttermilk Baby. On Tuesday, September 3rd, Berg Hospitality Group rolled out the red carpet for the VIP grand opening of their latest concept, a delightful mix of retro charm and modern indulgence. With families in tow, the Houston crowd gathered for an unforgettable evening that paid homage to vintage soda fountains while introducing a fresh take on southern comfort food.

Located in the vibrant M-K-T Heights, Buttermilk Baby is more than just a restaurant—it’s a love letter to simpler times, where soda fountains were the epicenter of sweet moments. Upon entering, guests were greeted by whimsical touches like pink cloud-shaped swings, a life-size carousel horse, and a vibrant river of sprinkles running through the kid-friendly ice cream bar. The pastel-hued interiors, designed by ICRAVE and sensitori’s Gail McCleese, set the stage for an evening filled with family fun, laughter, and, of course, delicious eats.

The event featured a preview of the Buttermilk Baby menu, which effortlessly fuses southern staples with a nostalgic twist. From buttery biscuits to crispy chicken sandwiches, the savory selections wowed the crowd. And for the dessert lovers? They were treated to the much-anticipated collaboration with Carvel®, marking the first time the iconic soft-serve brand has partnered with a restaurant concept in Texas. Guests of all ages indulged in Carvel’s signature Flying Saucer® ice cream sandwiches and soft serve creations, while the adults enjoyed boozy shakes with flavors like Espresso Shaketini and Bailey’s Oreo Cookie.

Benjamin Berg, Founder and CEO of Berg Hospitality Group, shared his excitement about the new venture, describing Buttermilk Baby as “cool casual,” where both kids and adults can come together for top-quality comfort food. “It’s about bringing a sense of nostalgia, but with a modern twist. We wanted to create a space that’s fun, relaxed, and full of flavors that everyone loves,” said Berg.

In addition to the regular menu, opening week promises special deals and promotions, inviting Houstonians to experience the magic of Buttermilk Baby. With its nostalgic charm and inventive menu, this new spot is poised to become the go-to hangout for families, date nights, and anyone craving a little sweet escape.

If you haven’t yet had the chance, make your way to Buttermilk Baby at 600 N Shepherd Dr. and see what all the buzz is about. Whether it’s for a quick breakfast, a leisurely lunch, or a post-dinner sweet treat, this is one opening you won’t want to miss.
