Last week we brought you an article all about closet basics, and what we feel are the most important components to building (or re building) a wardrobe (including handbags and shoes). And today, I (Julie) am here again to bring you more closet basics, but this time the focus is on accessories!

Of course, the most important pieces of a closet would be apparel, but you don’t want to forget about your accessories either! Truly, you can get by wearing the same (or similar) thing most days, just by switching up your accessories, plus everyone could use some fun and happy times now and that is what the addition of accessories does to the most basic items in your wardrobe!

And accessories don’t always have to be expensive. In fact, you can find extremely affordable, stylish pieces that are of great quality. And because you might want to switch up your accessories more often, and possibly buy trendier pieces, it’s a good idea to not splurge on them all too often (depending on the item, of course).

So, keep on reading for the five accessories we feel are a great place to start when it comes to your wardrobe.

5 Closet Basics : Accessories

Fashion Scarves: What’s great about a fashion scarf is that it’s not just stylish and adds an extra something to an outfit, but it’s functional, too. As the days start to get chillier, lightweight pieces, such as a fashion scarf are great for warming you up a bit. If you’re not into color, opt for black, grey, or tan, but it’s also fun to buy some colorful ones because they jazz up an all black outfit immediately. It’s an easy way to change up your entire look.

Sunglasses: Another stylish and functional item! Sunglasses, of course, protect your eyes from the sun, but they’re also one of the most popular and fun accessories to throw on (and they help to cover dark circles…!). If you’re one who either breaks or loses your glasses easily, find an inexpensive pair and buy a bunch of them, really! As well, this is another fun way to add a little color to a more neutral outfit. There are so many fun colors and styles and shapes out there.  Also, let’s not forget Fashion Eyewear…..no need to buy prescription glasses that make you yawn as you look into the mirror….try a new color, shape or size in this repurchase if necessary also!

Hat: If you’re not a hat person, you might skip this one, but having a great looking hat on hand is definitely something you’ll want to consider. And yet again, another accessory that is functional and stylish! Hats are very cool (personally, my favorite style is a fedora), but they also help to keep your head warm when it’s cold out. Try on all different styles of hats and see the one that fits your face and head the best. You never know when you’ll want to add it to your ensemble one day!

Belt: Oh the importance of a good belt! Whether paired with denim, pants, or over a dress or oversized shirt, a belt can cinch your waist, but also add an extra little something to your look. Whether brown or black (or go for color, if you’d like!), it’s important to have a great looking selection of belts on hand, even if you don’t wear them all too often.

Jewelry: Now, when it comes to jewelry, less is sometimes more. You don’t need to go overboard and get tons and tons of pieces. The key is to think versatility. A necklace, bracelet, and earrings in gold or silver (I’m more of a gold girl these days!) is a great place to start. Yes, you can buy some fashion, statement pieces, but if you’re investing, do so in the timeless pieces you’ll wear forever. Don’t forget watches…..a staple jewelry piece that is making its way back onto the fashion scene and when dressed up with some ‘watch bracelets’ can add interest at the wrist. Bracelets are a great place to have fun with your jewelry and since the trend in both necks and bracelets or mix, match and layering, have fun with it!
