One of the many charity luncheons in H-town, that I consider my not-to-miss every year is the Houston Chronicle/March of Dimes Best Dressed Luncheon. Certainly it has something to do with what I do, which is fashion, and it is always one of the best designer runway shows of the Spring season. However, what I love about this event is how our town’s fashion gals, always pull out all stops to make this intro to Spring a very fashionable one. This past week was no exception. I, of course, was thrilled by the Akris show. I admittedly had not seen the collection in a while and was smitten by some of the design additions and special pieces.
The honorees took to the runways looking like fashion stars with special recognition for all that they do that makes them community stars as well. Designers were well represented on the runway from Valentino to Oscar de la Renta, Gucci and Dolce and Gabbana to name a few. The audience has also never looked better….the fashionable crowd that helped March of Dimes raise $638,000 in this the 80th anniversary of the charity.

Ken Downing, Neiman Marcus Fashion & Creative Director, in town to introduce the Spring 2018 Akris designer runway show to the Best Dressed crowd
The newest collection of Akris was a departure from the Akris I had remembered from the past. This opening garment, which Ken Downing described as his “most favorite single dress in all of Paris during Paris Fashion Week.” It was so unique of a print design that Neiman’s duplicated it as the backdrop for the stage and for it’s giveaways as well.
Girls Just Want to Have Some Fun….and from the looks of it, mission accomplished! Best Dressed Honoree, Alicia Smith, with the help of her girlfriends and Jeff managed to make this luncheona true celebration for their friend!
Two Guys, Tilman and Patrick Fertitta sited just dropping by to make sure all was good at their new The Post Oak Hotel, which is magnificent and to take a quick peek at wife and mom, Paige Fertitta who was making her entry into the Best Dressed Hall of Fame.
