The long-awaited Benny Chows is finally here, and Houstonians are in for a treat. Berg Hospitality Group brings us Benny Chows, the 10th concept to debut in Houston and the 11th in the impressive portfolio by the food maven, Ben Berg, that never stops! (three more restaurants coming this Fall!) Led by the renowned Benjamin Berg, who admitted that it was a dream of his to have a NY-Style Chinese Restaurant in his newly found home in Houston, Texas. Drawing inspiration from those early memories of Chinese restaurants in New York, Ben’s goal is to infuse a Texas touch into the dishes, offering Houstonians a novel dining experience.
Executive Chef Shirong Mei, with nearly three decades of culinary experience, crafts a menu rooted in Cantonese tradition but enriched with local ingredients. The Smoked Brisket Egg Roll, featuring Truth BBQ’s brisket, and the Holy Trinity Fried Rice, a delightful blend of Chinese sausage, house-made char siu pork, and Hill Country BBQ’s brisket, both were favorites of mine and are just a few examples of the playful yet comforting dishes awaiting diners.
No culinary adventure is complete without exceptional beverages. The cocktail menu at Benny Chows, curated by in-house mixologist Jose Lucas, promises a unique blend of Eastern flavors. Infused with select luxurious teas from TEALEAVES, these signature libations are not only visually stunning but also delightful on the palate. One standout cocktail is the Mr. K’s Scorpion, a tiki drink served in a large crystal decanter with individual scorpion lollipops, creating a shared showstopper for the whole table.
