Fashion Coats for Fall 2014 have never made more of a Fashion Statement…Lengths, Color and Fabric Choices are A-Plenty
Spoken as a true Coat-Lover, which I am, and have been letting it be known for a few seasons now, I think that the ‘Fashion Coat’ is one of the newest ideas in the industry these days. It’s like everyone got the memo and have made within their fall collections, a few coats that are guaranteed to make the wearer stand out in any crowd. Whether for wear-to-work, casual weekend or the newest, great evening coats, the fashion newness is there.
I know that in our neck of the woods, people have turned the other cheek when I give my ‘ode to the great coat’ speech but this is the year to make a purchase and add some great fashion to your wardrobe. It can be lightweight wool (actually just a long blazer) or it can be all snugly and warm….the choices en vogue are numerous!
The Statement Coat
A Vogue editor coined this phrase and I loved it, it says it all. If you want a guarantee to never just blend in with the crowd, wear a great coat and wear it like whatever you are wearing under it doesn’t matter. “Style”, says Vogue, “is about making statements and being warm is just the icing on the cake!” I couldn’t agree more. Newness this season is the increase in options on Color…from neutrals to bold to softest pastels & white; Fabric is about texture and of course, for our climate, Weight and one of the newest ideas is Novelty, you no longer need to ensure that you have only the most basic black coat for your wardrobe…probably good to have that but as you build a Coat Wardrobe, add some fun with novelty looks such as fur trim, uneven hems, new fashion colors and some patterns from plaids to animal prints. Have fun building your Coat Wardrobe….our newest chill in the air should be your inspiration!
Styling Tip: I like my coats big and slouchy to go over anything and everything I own in my closet….however, it is chic-est when worn over a slim skirt, dress or pant. Don’t be afraid of color….my RED Armani Coat is one my greatest wardrobe assets and has proven to be a worthy investment (if compliments count!!)
Fashion Coat Style Highlights
The Wrap Robe Coat
(Fashion’s #1 Coat of the Season)
This Robe Coat from The Row is one of my favorite shots from Harper’s Bazaar. This idea is such a favorite new trend that you will see Tina Fey wearing it on the cover of Elle this month. The look is available at all price ranges from Designer to H&M and is probably the most versatile style of the season.
