Wes Gordon Debuts his Spring 2014 Collection on Closing Night of Fashion Houston
Wes Gordon, at the age of 27 and 4 years into his own business, has become quite the Rising Star in the Fashion World, creating quite a buzz with the people in the know or just those that are lovers of great style. Wes, an Atlanta native, studied at the famous London Central St. Martens Design School, where the likes of Zac Posen, Alexander McQueen, Jon Galliano, to name just a few, led the way. It was during this time that Wes also was able to secure internships with some of the greats in the business such as Oscar de la Renta and Tom Ford. Having had this rich level of education behind him, he came to New York City and without hesitation began, in Fall of 2009, designing his first collection. He showed in hotel rooms and did presentations to the press during NYFW, receiving many great reviews but it was not until this past September 2013, that he showed his first runway show for NYFashion Week.
His style is minimal and modern but not in a severe way…..often softened and feminine. His goal is clean, simple lines with touches of femininity that are made in the finest fabrics. His look he has taken from the late 90’s and envisions, Cate Blanchett, Carolyn Bessette, Renee Russo in Thomas Crown Affair and Gwyneth as his style icons that he visualizes in his head as he creates this simple, elegant, young classic look. For Spring he chose soft colors such as blush, buttery yellow and celery green along with neutrals and a great copper color throughout, to showcase his designs and ground his color palette to keep it soft and sophisticated and not too cutesey! He loves to work close to the body and to show a long, linear shape…..as he says where your legs look 11 ft. long! He has introduced flare legs in pants and says that he caters to women of all ages as he considers his collection to be ageless.
