Tory Burch Spring 2013 Preview…Collection for the Sophisticated Magpie in All of Us…

Tory Burch, who addressed the All-American girl in her collection, did so with what she herself defines with a “bit of a slant.”  In her preview at her studio she says of her All-American beauty is that she is “classic in spirit, but a bit of a traveler.”  She has a “magpie sensibility,” a souvenir collector, which was apparent in many of the wonderful embellishments on the clothing and amazing accessories that she seemed to have just picked up along the way.

Tory definitely addressed Yellow as the important color for the Spring season, and I particularly loved her mixing of patterns based on her opening wheat-printed silk faille pieces, which I have featured above that I particularly liked.  I also loved the combo of yellow with grey, a soft and modern pairing.  Her shapes were simple, colors strong, her patterns and fabrications interesting, and her ornamentation was a stand-out that was a definite take-away memory of the collection for me.

It should be mentioned that Tory, through her Tory Burch Foundation, had created a collection from one-of-a-kind tie-dye fabrics by women artisans from the Kindia region of Guinea, whose common goal is empowering women, their families and communities.  These fabrics made for some very interesting, bohemian-in-feel, pieces that were embellished with unique and colorful beading, either on the garments themselves or as major statement necklaces on the girls.

This collection had much more of a global feeling than I recall from past ones and I find that only fitting as she continues to grow and become a mega global brand that should and will appeal to all.

One styling tip that I noted aside from the great accessorizing of each and every model, was also the use of “messy braids” on all of the girls that just reiterates that that hair trend is here to stay….loved it so that I duped it in a fashion show here that followed.
