“I have a busy life and can’t take much time off, but want to do something about these lines I see in the mirror.” This is often what I hear from people who are good candidates for injections. Injections are some of the simplest and quickest procedures that are available. Injections can be done in the office without any type of preparation, sedation, etc. Some offices use anesthetic cream and some do not. You can return to work the same day or the next day. In some cases, you can have bruising even with the most meticulous injection technique. This can last from a few days up to a week. It doesn’t usually happen and it can be covered with some concealer.
Soft tissue fillers, like Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, and Belotero have immediate effects. Restylane, Juvaderm and Belotero are hyaluronic acid, which is found in all of your cells, to provide volume and fill in a fold or line. These are injected into the folds between your nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), between your mouth and chin (marionette lines), under the eyes (tear troughs), lips or sometimes in the cheeks. These fillers last about 9-12 months. Radiesse is calcium hydroxyapatite, which gives it a firmer consistency. It can be used in any of the above areas or to build up areas like cheekbones. This tends to last longer, about 12-18 months. Unlike the other fillers, this one is not reversible, so probably not your best choice for your first time!
Almost immediate gratification
Botox acts to freeze muscles and smooth the “11’s” or vertical lines between the brows, horizontal lines of the forehead and crowsfeet. Dysport is used in the same way and has the same action as Botox, but is made by a different company. Both Botox and Dysport take 3-7 days to take effect. So within in about a week you will look in the mirror and see a nice, smooth forehead!
