Pierpaolo Piccioli has done it again! Yet another show-stopping, eye-catching Valentino runway show that left us more amazed with each passing look. Arguably one of the most inclusive runways of Paris Haute Couture Week 2019, Piccioli debuted oversized and over-the-top pieces on an array of models from just about every race and age group possible! Lauren Hutton proved she still has it as she strutted down the runway in a glowing green get-up. Color, silhouette, texture…Valentino had it all! Picciolo stated that the show was all “about the idea of individualism”, and it’s safe to say he more than delivered that message!

Chanel Served a Library of Looks

The first couture week since the late Karl Lagerfeld‘s passing marked the first Paris Haute Couture Week for Virginie Viard as creative director for Chanel. Viard used this debut to honor the one who started it all. The glamorous runway was set in a library inspired by the brand’s creator and namesake, Gabrielle Chanel‘s own home library from her iconic apartment. To take the homage to the brand even further, it is important to note that Lagerfeld was a huge and notable book-lover! This collection was overflowing with the appearance of classic Chanel, but upon further inspection it was something new completely. The tweed-looking material was in fact not tweed at all, but embroidered fabric- the perfect symbolism of Viard bringing a new life to Chanel, while staying true to the brand.

Dark Daydreams at Dior

They say inspiration can come from anywhere, and that was exactly the case in Dior‘s Paris Haute Couture Week 2019 collection! Creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri has more than made a name for herself with unique runway concepts. For the Fall 2019 couture collection, Chiuri took a page from the 2019 Met Gala‘s book, and grew her theme from an essay. It’s safe to say in 1974 when Bernard Rudofsky penned his essay “Are Clothes Modern?”, he never expected to see those words plastered on a t-shirt at Paris Haute Couture Week 2019! The concept of the collection (and essay) is that what we wear should be comfortable, livable…efficient, yet still couture! Silhouettes that support, not hinder the body in textures and colors that exude elegance.

“Black may be just as striking as color.”

-Christian Dior

In his essay, Rudofsky also touches on our clothing being the first house we live. In this view, the pieces we put on our body are in a way beautiful pieces of architecture. Maria Grazia Chiuri took this and ran with it, making a literal House of Dior (pictured below)!

Givenchy Gave Ultimate Elegance

Givienchy‘s creative director, Clare Waight Keller, may still be newer to the haute couture world, but there is no question it is where she belongs! While the collection was, for the most part, quite subdued in color wiht mainly black and white ensembles, it was anything but boring. Think feathers, layers, and texture galore! Elevated and elegant are the first two words that come to mind when viewing the luxury label’s lineup.
