I know that I have been singin’ the blues this season because I love them all…maybe even more than the reds, but one color that I have called the “sleeper” of the season is the color MUSTARD YELLOW. As I recently walked Macy’s floors to pull for a Fashion Presentation, there were bits of it everywhere, usually in small ways…like a complimentary piece here or there. There was also a dramatic head-to-toe MUSTARD coat that everyone fell in love with and wanted to wear. It’s all really registered with me after seeing Spring 2013, and the Emmy Awards Show a few weeks back, YELLOW is definitely a dominant color for now into Spring, so it just makes so much sense that it’s warmest version…..MUSTARD or GOLDEN YELLOW would be a great addition for Fall to add to your wardrobes right now.
The shocking thing for me was that it looked good on most skin tones and hair colors, depending on the degree of green or brown mixed within the color. I thought I was not made for this color and bought a cardigan to wear with my navys, browns and find it a warm offset to the coolness of greys.
Styling Tip: Can be worn head-to-toe but in most cases, best if color blocked with a contrasting color……either in a warm hue like blood orange red or with any neutral from Navy to Brown to Grey…..my least favorite is with Black (I have this fear of bumble bees that gets me here!), but if done right and tasteful, can work there also.
As this was not the first color that came to most of your minds when thinking of Fall, I urge you to stop and take a look when you walk past a fixture that is housing a taste of mustard…..a little goes a long way, but it’s worth the right touch for your wardrobe!
