About Steve Tyrell…
Grammy Award-winning vocalist Steve Tyrell is truly a renaissance man. In over four decades in the music business, he has achieved great success as an artist, producer, songwriter, music supervisor, and performer. Houston Fans have known Steve for years, however, fans first discovered him, nationally, as a vocalist from his performances in “Father of the Bride” and “Father of the Bride II,” bringing classic pop standards to a modern-day audience — and launching thousands of romances in the process.
With the grit and soul of a lifetime of experiences, Tyrell has a devoted following on Adult Contemporary Radio and all of his American Standards albums have achieved top 10 status on Billboard’s Jazz charts. He has become the “go to” artists for the highest standard in American Standards – requested by the Sinatra family and Quincy Jones to be the featured performer at Frank Sinatra’s induction into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame; Oscar winning songwriters Alan and Marilyn Bergman and the late Marvin Hamlisch’s choice to sing the end title to Steven Soderbergh’s film “The Informant;” and the only artist asked to fill the legendary shoes of the late Bobby Short at New York City’s Café Carlyle, where he will be entering his 10th year.
About This Very Special Event for PBS…
Now in his first public television special, STEVE TYRELL: LIVE FROM GALVESTON, Tyrell’s whiskey-sour baritone performs love songs from the Great American Songbook and 1960s pop at the Grand 1894 Opera House in a homecoming concert filmed in 2014. The Houston native highlights some of the best songs of the era — “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Let’s Fall in Love,” “I’ll Take Romance,” “This Guy’s In Love” and more – with Tyrell’s all-too-familiar charm matched by the gorgeous setting of the historic Grand.
Viewers supporting public television will have access to premium concert tickets before they go on sale to the public, a meet and greet with Steve, and a CD that is not available in retail.
What’s an important note for Houstonians to recognize is that the Special was shot in Galveston. This is a homecoming. Houston PBS is previewing this Special for the hometown crowd before its national release. So please mark your calendars right now so that you will not miss this very special H-town event!

Oh, this sounds great…..can’t wait to watch and see what Steve will be doing with PBS. I’m such a fan of his and of all the great things happening on PBS. Thanks for sharing!
Such a fan, will definitely be watching! Would love to get that meet and greet!
We were there when it was filmed! So excited about seeing his wonderful show again! Welcome home, Steve!
I’m a Steve Tyrell fan! My daughter gave me tickets to attend his concert several years ago. He was awesome!
Great news! We’ll be watching Thursday. We celebrated our 41st anniversary attending Steve’s wonderful performance at Jones Hall in March. He is the consummate professional. Love him and his singing style!
Please come back to Reading PA sometime soon. The Jazz Fest in March 2015 ? You were here once at the Miller Center but if you want to book some local clubs for a week there are plenty. The YR Club in Wyomissing PA along with the Performing Arts Center in Reading would love to have you visit here again. Thank you! My Dad loved your music and our family thinks you’re the tits! (Or teats, if you prefer less colloquial speak.) Anyway you say it, you speak to us and our love of hearing you sing a great song or two (more if possible!) to an audience who loves your style and stage presence which is up close and personal. That makes all the difference. Hope to see you in Reading Steve.
I’ll definitely be watching and experiencing deja vu! I was at the concert at the Galveston 1894 Opera House when this was filmed. On my bucket list – catch Steve at The Carlyle in NYC!!
Do you know if this PBS program will be shown on the PBS station in the Boston area? If so do you know when and what time it will be shown?
