For many reasons, mostly of late, I have been traveling in the month of October in Italy to shop (sob!) and can’t work a visit into Round Top Texas into my schedule. Not sure why April hasn’t worked but always something!! This has raised my desire to visit Round Top to a very high spot on my To Do List……not necessarily to Bucket List level but close. So this year, given the circumstances of limited travel, a quick drive up Highway 290 was just the right distance and brought me and my family there this past Sunday for a long awaited visit.
Safety was a top consideration of mine in making this trip but the reassurances on websites of the locale and individual stores made me aware of the precautions that were being taken to ensure that all venues were safe for all……mask wearing, social distancing, spacing within and sanitizers galore was adhered to in all shops that we visited.
What a treat it was, but far too little time…..a day trip just isn’t enough but our sweep through town gave me enough of a taste that I do know now exactly where I want to go back to when I can spend more time. It is amazing how this 20 mile stretch of Texas Highway 237 from Carmine to La Grange skyrockets with visitors to the tune of approximately 100,000 during this highly anticipated semi-annual shopping time.
Antique store fronts and pop-up shops from many of the known and unknown popular shopping sites in our hometown as well as others were such fun to see and to try to grasp and remember. It has been officially open since October 15 and closes this coming Sunday on November 1. It was only this past Monday and Tuesday (10/26,10/27) that the Original Round Top Antiques Fair, started 52 years ago and Marburger Farm Antique Show opened which we unfortunately missed but not sure if my brain could have absorbed much more during our Sunday visit. They are open through this Sunday.
The following are some of the pics from our Sunday Fun-day in Round Top….as I said we only had one day so I was practically on roller skates zooming through booths trying to see as much as we could…..
The People We Visited With…….
The Dining We Feasted On, of course…
The Businesses we visited….
There are Four (4) days left to make it there if you haven’t been this year or ever…..what a great, easy way to see some of Texas’ best!!!
