While most of us just frantically closed out 2017, Pantone has already propelled us into 2018 and unveiled the Color of the Year, Pantone 18-3838 Ultra-Violet.  You can read more about the shade and the reason behind their choice in Heather’s post.

Chelsi here and personally, I am in love with this hue!  First, I feel it is a small tribute to the Great Purple one himself, Prince, who actually has his own Pantone shade called ‘Love Symbol #2’.  I have been to his home in Minneapolis twice, taken the tour, shed a tear, but I digress.  I especially love this choice for what it will mean for beauty!  Here are a few of my favorites that are already on the market for you to grab and get started on this upcoming trend.

Butter London has the exclusive partnership with Pantone and has created a beautiful limited-edition collection with all things purple.  With products ranging from Eye Gloss, Eye Liner, Lipstick, Lip Gloss and of course, Nail Lacquer, there are many ways you can go about incorporating the chic shade into your look.  My favorite item of the collection is the Pantone Color of the Year Collection, which contains 4 items to get you started on this trend – a Nail Lacquer, Lip Gloss, Eye Gloss and Eye Liner all in the Ultra-Violet shade family.

For the eyes, I love the Tom Ford Private Shadow in Violet Vinyl.  The formula is a very creamy pearlized shade but with no glitter particles that will fall onto your face.  It can add a simple pop of color to the eyes by applying it to the outer corners of your eyes.  For a more dramatic look, apply it to the lid and blend through the crease area.

Even your lashes can get into the trend with a violet hue.  Marc Jacobs O!Mega Lash Volumizing Mascara in Violet Incredible adds a hint of the purple shade to the lashes and is a very subtle way to experiment with the trend.  You can use this alone on the entire lash line or for those who really want to tip toe into this trend, coat your lashes with your black mascara first, then follow with the violet shade to coat just the tips of your lashes for added effect.

For the lips, you may be thinking ‘no way would I wear a purple shade’!  While it does make a bold statement, it is more versatile than you think. My personal fave is the MAC Matte Lipstick in Heroine, but the brand offers many shades of violet for you to choose from.  It is suitable for all skintones and is perfect when you want to have a look with a strong lip and clean, simple eyes.

Even skincare has products that feature this beautiful violet shade.  The Tatcha Violet-C Radiance Mask is powered by the Japanese beautyberry, a glossy purple superfruit rich in antioxidants that was found to stabilize Vitamin C, maximizing the effectiveness.  It is also packed with 2 types of Vitamin C and AHAs from 7 fruits that reveals glowing, more radiant skin.

These violet inspired products are already on the market but so many more will be launching soon.  We would love to hear all about your favorites in the comments below!
