The stunning Oscar de la Renta exhibit, ‘The Glamour and Romance of Oscar de la Renta’, featured at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston was just announced to be held over thru March 2018 so the many fans of the Man and his Beauty that missed it during the ending of our very hectic Houston year, can still make it in.
The announcement was made live by the Museum this past Sunday. What a special treat for those of us that were attending the documentary film on the life of creative genius, Andre Leon Talley, The Gospel According to Andre, an exclusive one day only preview of the film which opens in NYC in April. Talley whose credits include Creative Director of Vogue Magazine, European Senior Editor for Women’s Wear Daily-Europe and Creative Assistant to the infamous Diana Vreeland at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC. Most recently he was the curator of the exhibit of his dear friend and colleague, Oscar de la Renta, which opened in Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts last October and was scheduled to close on January 28. The announcement brought cheers from the crowd.
If you haven’t walked the exhibit I encourage you to do so. Many of Oscar’s most beautiful gowns are featured and for me, the greatest pleasure was not merely in seeing the dresses worn by such celebs as Amal Clooney, Beyonce, Penelope Cruz, Taylor Swift and former First Ladies, but also to be able to enjoy viewing the gowns worn by many of Houston’s own most famous names such as Lynn Wyatt, Rose Cullen, Allison Sarofim, Yvonne Cormier (best buddy to Talley who introed Sunday’s film and had quite a cameo performance within it!), Carolyn Farb and the late Sandra Di Portanova.
It is a treat guaranteed to brighten up these dreary winter days…….don’t miss it, you’ve been given a second chance!
