Having been to the runway shows and knowing what the trends are that are coming to consumers in store and/or online for Spring 2015, it comes to mind that there are many great ideas that made a tiny splash for 2014 but have grown to make a big entrance to the 2015 fashion scene.
We tell you this now, so that you can keep that in mind as you shop the year-ending sales….think forward! Also, if there are trends that you loved from either Spring or Fall, no worries, they will still look right for the coming season. Feel comfortable with what you have and if you loved it, buy more!!! Below are a few of the top trends that are expanding going forward and have lots of newness to offer as you prepare to make your earliest purchases.
Activewear
One of the fastest growing categories in Sportswear for the coming year. Track pants started for Fall and many designers/celebs have collaborated on some very cool collections going forward (more details of this to follow; watch MRG for a story coming soon on the newest lines here…..Stella McCarntney’s newest for Adidas, Beyonce for Top Shop, Zella for Nordstrom, Naeem Khan for Naeem Khan, Trina Turk and Kate Hudson’s subscription concept. More info to come but know that the time is right now …get exercising!
Year Round Leather
No new news here……leather is definitely investment dressing. Buy well and it can be worn season after season and for years to come. I say, buy a good piece a year….jacket (got it), skirt(got it!), Pant (probably got it!), Dress (need to get it!)
Open toe booties
The Number One shoe for 2014 has shown no sign of fading in it popularity. Remember, Booties are the most important shoe, next to a pump that you can own…..open toe gets you through the warmth here and is offering the most excitement & newness for the New Year!
Pastels
Soft color families……blush/pink, baby blue, soft lilac, yellows, greens, corals and more…..all colors that Texans for years shied away from, they are now embracing and accepting this color palette and its sophisticated look. Bold is still around but the newness both in 2014 and for sure in 2015 is in the soft hues.
Trench coat/statement jackets
I love Coats/Jacket/Trenches/Statement Jackets……great wardrobe completers and wardrobe builders. Newest this year that you will see in Spring….the Sleeveless Coat.
Layering Delicate Jewelry
I’m loving this trend that has been surfacing for awhile. More to come on this later for the New Year but remember, delicate pieces are at their best when layered either within the individual piece (ala dangling charms) or if worn separately…..more is better. From the most delicate personalization charms to religious motifs…..this trend is growing and here to stay!
Wide leg pants/culottes
Cropped wide leg pants began making a comeback this year but were all over the runways as “culottes” for Spring. I have pulled some old culottes from my archives, are wearing them and love their comfort and ease of style. Tibi did them great as a wide leg, cropped fitted trouser but others are showing as well….from knits to wool gab to stretch and even leather.
Midi skirts
Longer lengths again came straight from the runways…..what fashion is calling midis is not necessarily mid-calf but basically anything from a knee-grazer down. I’m loving this look and maybe it’s just my eye, but I’m seeing less minis and more midis on the stylish set….makes me happy, as I always felt this to be the more chic look!
Off the shoulder top
Crops were all the rage in the press and the runways and maybe they’ll be out there this year, but not as many were on the streets as you would think. However, the look that’s back and that I love is the Off-the-Shoulder. Shown by so, so many designers from Tibi to Donna Karan to Nanette Lepore and many more, even the evening wear greats……bare shoulders were hinted at last year but are big for the coming year. Prediction: they will take off in popularity as for many women, let’s face it….shoulders are their best assets or as a friend said, “the last to go!” LOL
Fringe
Texas loves Fringe……we’ve always loved it in suede and rodeo time brings the most out of the closet and on to the street. However, the newness this year is the move to soft evening, to other categories from skirts, dresses, handbags in delicate fabrics. It continues and I’m thrilled…..don’t forget the earrings!!! Love them.
