Designer Nanette Lepore and daughter, Violet, start the Finale, which was to become a fun, Conga Line led by designers’ brother and daughter, as perfect ending to upbeat, casual Spring/Summer Show. Made you leave the Sunday night event feeling very happy and wishing more of the shows left you with such great spirit!
It was Sunday night in NYFW at 7:00 p.m. on what has become a long day for shows. How to keep everyone interested and stimulated I’m sure was not easy but Nanette Lepore and her team found just the way. The music was upbeat, the collection was laid-back, relaxed and not to be taken too seriously but obviously easily wearable and fun. The excitement of Violet’s catwalk debut and then the ending of a brotherly-led conga line finale, left the crowd cheering and equally uplifted to leave the shows feeling happy for a perfect ending to an action-packed Fashion Week weekend. I liked Nanette and her clothes a lot when she was here at Neiman Marcus in the Spring with her Trunk Show and she did not disappoint. It made for one of the more memorable and certainly more enjoyable evenings of the week.
About the Collection
Nanette Lepore’s relaxed, youthful collection for Spring/Summer 2015 was inspired by the designers past vacations to California and the South of France. She stated her love of the sun and beach which she expressed in this relaxed, beach-y collection. Her designs were all very cheerful and laid-back. Colors ranged from opener of hot sun-yellow to a more mellow yellow, tranquil blue and soft blush. She did many solids but also spotted the collection with her “border prints” that worked with each of the soft colors. However, many of my favorite looks were the more simpler white textured cottons that stood out wherever they were placed. She ended the show with an embroidered black & white grouping, very bohemian in feel, that led to the happy ending with her daughter Violet’s catwalk debut in a black embroidered caftan.
Star of the Night…Violet Savage, 16 yr. old daughter of the designer, making her modeling debut as the show’s closer, to the cheering crowd!
