What a great night I spent last Saturday evening, April 24, attending the Memorial Hermann annual gala in the comfort of my own living room. I must say that we haven’t had such fun in awhile. Not sure if it was the Smokey Robinson concert, which was such a blast from the past to watch and sing-a-long as yes, I knew every word to every one of his hits. (haven’t been able to say that in a long time!) The tasty fare from Tony’s which was delivered to every sponsor along with a “Rock Star Kit” that was packed full of fun glitz and glam, was certainly also a delight. All of that plus being able to sit in my home and celebrate, after the year we have had, such amazing honorees…..what a night!
Everything about the evening was top notch, as always, with the Memorial Hermann team. Chaired by Leticia and Steve Trauber and featuring a livestream performance by legendary singer songwriter and co-founder of Motown Records, Smokey Robinson. The event honorees included the amazing Beverly and Jim Postl, who have done so much for our community, Phillips 66, longtime supporters and the Memorial Hermann Frontline Heroes.….so many that have done so much for each of us during this last year. I will never forget the positive attitudes of each that I came in contact with on that emotional morning when I arrived at the “Shot of Hope” for my first vaccine! They were all amazing!
In addition to the 45-minute performance by Robinson, the gala included a pre-taped program produced by Ward & Ames Events that included remarks by Memorial Hermann President and CEO, Memorial Hermann Foundation Executive Vice President and CEO and the event chairs. There was also a very moving video that paid tribute to the MH healthcare workers who have worked tirelessly to keep all of Houston residents safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic more than a year ago, our employees have faced each challenge with courage and compassion, as well as an unwavering dedication to serve our community,” said Callender.
“As we come together tonight virtually to celebrate the extraordinary work of our healthcare workers I’m reminded of how openhearted, kindhearted and simply extraordinary Houstonians are in their capacity to care for each other,” said Neeson. “Tonight we celebrate Beverly and Jim Postl, Phillips 66 and the amazing Memorial Hermann frontline heroes who continue to make a difference in the lives of others each and every day.”
