Amsale Aberra, the famed Bridal designer, who is credited with being the visionary that created the dress for the modern bride, and very recently passed away, was a beautiful example of a return to classicism that dominated Bridal’s Spring 2019 Runway Shows
Having been fortunate enough to have visited the Bridal Runway Shows a few seasons back, I have a new found interest and appreciation for this industry and the beauty in design that comes from these creators. It is no wonder that Bridal, although historically appreciated by many for just the sheer beauty of the garments, has become such a fashion and design focus of late.
The Spring 2019 Bridal Shows that just happened in NYC in April had its own unique twist on the fashion scene, says Joan Pillow, founder and owner of Joan Pillow Bridal Salon in Houston’s Highland Village. Joan describes the newest shows as a return to classisicm. Whether inspired by the impact of mega talent, visionary and bridal influencer, Amsale Aberra, who recently passed away from cancer earlier in the month or the whimsical beauty of the Reem Acra collection that was in tribute to the literary classic, “The Prophet”, there were many beautiful dresses for lucky brides of the near future to peruse in pursuit of that very special dress!
Some of the most dominant trends for Spring 2019 from the Bridal Runways are: Stretch Silk Illusion as seen beautifully on the Amsale gowns; Return to beautiful fabrics such as silk satin; Ballgowns; Plunging V-necks; Embellishments on tulle and Sparkle done in many different ways
Below are some of Joan’s favorites from her own runway photos that she felt were great examples of the most important looks from the market that she will have represented in her Salon.
