I have always been an admirer of Jenny Packham gowns as I would view them worn by many top celebrities on the Red Carpet, and quite often by the Duchess of Cambridge who has been photographed wearing many Packham dresses for a countless number of royally attended events. This designer, who has become synonymous with glamorous evening design, is an award winning, honors graduate of the illustrious Central St. Martins Design School, and is clearly recognized as one of the UK’s most successful and globally recognized, independent fashion brands.
However, it was not until I recently attended a trunk show of her bridal/evening collection at Joan Pillow Bridal Salon, and saw these amazing dresses close-up and personal that I truly appreciated her craft and design. It was then that I decided that I must see her show at NYFW and was lucky enough to do so.
Her inspiration for this season’s collection was a tribute to The Salonnieres, noble and cultured women of 17th century Paris. This collection features the rich tones and hues of these creative and enlightened women and the salons at which they gathered. The rich colors were in shades of midnight blue, scarlet reds, cinnamon and lustrous opals. The runway came alive as each model wearing one illustrious gown after another walked the catwalk.
Styling Note: a trend that I found here to look so fresh and new that has been budding on the scene for a short while, was the use of coats/jackets over long gowns. You should give your pashminas and wraps a rest and try this look as a special topper for any gala entrance.
