The Hermann Park Conservancy recently hosted another spectacular evening…….its annual gala, Evening in the Park, at the Molly Ann Smith Plaza in Hermann Park. Coming shortly after the McWilliams Dog Park and the Commons groundbreakings, this year made for a year of celebration. This yea’s co-chairs, Brigitte Kalai and Hallie Vanderhider, were excited in raising $700,000 for the stewardship and improvement of Houston’s 108 year old Hermann Park.
This event follows March’s Hats Off In The Park Luncheon, and in for both events Houstonians donned spring-inspired attire, including floral dresses and bright colors. Over 500 people attended this year’s fabulous Evening in the Park Gala.
The Evening began with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. It’s always fun to hop on Hermann Park’s iconic children’s train! After trying the night’s signature cocktail, The Paloma, we traveled by train to a delicious seated dinner provided by City Kitchen. Gorgeous flower arrangements and elegant chandeliers awaited us at the dinner tent. After dinner came desserts and dancing!
Last year’s event celebrated the McWilliams Dog Park (opening later in 2022). Participants raised $700,000 for the stewardship and improvement of Hermann Park, topping last year’s record-breaking number by $50,000. The Park’s next biggest project is The Commons. The Hermann Park Commons has an estimated completion date in January 2024.
We know that with new immersive and inclusive play spaces, restored natural habitats, and a place of respite for our healthcare workers and community, the Commons will be a place for everyone to call their own… The future looks bright for Hermann Park. So tonight, we are here to celebrate all the improvements the Conservancy has accomplished in the past 30 years, and to make sure the next 30 years of improvements starts on the right foot.

In addition to all of the generous donors, the Conservancy extends special thanks to City Kitchen andthe Mayor’s Office of Special Events for their event support. The Conservancy looks forward to 2023’s Evening in the Park, to be chaired by Phoebe and Bobby Tudor, and Ping Sun and David Leebron, honoring Doreen Stoller.
