National Picnic Day might look a little different this year, but that does not mean it has to feel any less special! Public Content has teamed up with local Houston restaurants to launch a #StayAtHomePicnic campaign to engage Houstonians with special picnic offers to enjoy at home. A culmination point of the campaign will be on Thursday, April 23rd that aims to support local restaurants as well as foster a sense of community by encouraging Houstonians to take a second out of their isolated lives, plan a picnic and remind themselves that we are all in this together.
Confirmed participants for 2020 include: Adair Kitchen, Betsys at Evelyn’s Park, Bistro Provence, Brasserie du Parc, Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co., Camerata at Paulie’s, Goode Company, La Lucha, Kenny & Ziggy’s, Mendocino Farms, Mutiny Wine Room, Ouisie’s Table, Paulie’s, Picnic on the Green at Kuhl-Linscomb, Postino, Prego, Rainbow Lodge, Superica, Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen, TRIBUTE at The Houstonian, and Verandah Progressive Indian Restaurant. Follow their Instagram pages for details on each restaurant’s plans!
It has been made apparent that now more than ever, Houstonians are utilizing and cherishing the outdoors, especially front yards, porches, and terraces. Not only have the great outdoors served as a much-needed getaway from the monotony of home-quarantining, they have also allowed people to connect in a way reminiscent of simpler times – it’s an unlikely yet refreshing outcome of COVID-19. In light of this new way of connecting, Public Content asks that Houstonians step outside on National Picnic Day and create their very own picnic – whatever that might look like. Participants are asked to post pictures of their setups, using the hashtags #StayAtHomePicnic and #NationalPicnicDay, so the sense of community fostered by this initiative is apparent online.
