Taylor Swift, my fave of the evening, in Teal Eli Saab, Rihana in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture and Gwen Stefani in Atelier Versace
The Grammy Awards are always the one award show in the depths of award season that you can count on to have lots of glitz and glam that may even take it over the top. When I was searching for the Haute Couture Shows that went on in Paris just a couple of weeks ago, they implied then that many of the gowns from Couture Week would most likely end up on the Grammys Red Carpet. In fact, that did happen with the most over-the-top gown being the Giambattista Valli Haute Couture pink puff of a gown that Rihana wore fresh off the runway! How fitting that the gown that closed Valli’s Paris show was also worn by the music star who was the last to step foot on the carpet at the very end just moments before the Grammy show was to begin.
We know that the Grammy Awards are always a show where anything goes and as I am sure that none of the musical stars were thinking of the trend they were wearing, we have attempted to group our high notes (top looks) into a few fashion trends. On a Red Carpet of very little color…Black won the evening, hands down! Followed by beading and lots and lots of it, as the second biggest trend of the night. Pants are starting to make their way back to the carpet with Jumpsuits and tailored pantsuits look ever-so-chic, as was noted during Haute Couture week in Paris recently. There weren’t many short numbers that cought our eye, but the two that did were a call-out for their simplicity and style.
Enjoy the highlights of the Grammys as seen through MY RED GLASSES….
Black Was the Color of the Night
Such a night for drama and lots and lots of black….in fact, it appeared as though that if you were not dressed in black and/or lots of beads, you clearly did not get the memo that everyone else had gotten.
Ciara in an asymmetrical haute couture Alexander Vauthier gown, Anna Kendrick in a menswear inspired tuxedo-look by Band of Outsiders, and Jessie J. in a semi-sheer glam Ralph + Russo gown.
Beyonce in a beaded and lace Proenza Schouler gown, Nikki Minaj in a fringed Tom Ford dress with plunging neckline, and Meghan Trainor in a Galia Lahav with a sheer overlay.
Beads, Beads and more Beads…Calling All Glitz
Beads were everywhere…even on the black gowns that were worn. Katy Perry’s fresh from haute couture runway and Rita Ora in a Prada that was inspired by a disco ball…really?!
Lady Gaga looking very Old Hollywood in a beaded Brandon Maxwell gown, Katy Perry in a straight off the runway, midi-length Zuhair Murad couture dress, and Rita Ora in a shimmering custom Prada gown.
Short, Understated and Elegant
Not many short gowns for the evening but the two that caught our eye were stunning and simple style.

Roz,
Enjoyed your sending of Steve’s new cd “Lovin Feeling”. My sisters and I as young teens, use to select that song and other RBros. songs, along with many of BJ’s, in the jukebox on Friday (family) pizza nights at the Pizza Yoint on Old Galveston Rd., in south Houston.
So great of Steve to bring back such a great song for us to enjoy all over again!
Enjoyed your Grammy highlights, too!
