Allison Williams in Red strapless crystal beaded Armani Prive, Naomi Watts in Canary Yellow Gucci with Bulgari serpent necklace, and Julianne Moore in Ombred Givenchy Haute Couture……it was tough to choose but these three ladies and their gowns are what we voted as our Top Three of the evening.
Honorable Mentions…Our Next Three; Elegant Simplicity Showcasing Exquisit Diamond Jewels from Tiffany
Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein Silver Metallic was so stunning with her simplicity of gown and magnificent Tiffany jewels valued at $1.5 million…the Earrings, 6.75 carat platinum ring and diamond bracelet in 18 K at 200.00 were show-stoppers on their own; Emma Stone in a Lanvin Jumpsuit broke the mold with her sophisticated beaded top and big flouncy back bow, and Sienna Miller in Ivory printed Miu Miu plunging neckline (a big look for the evening) and also in Tiffany’s Jazz drop earrings, bow bangle in platinum and Tiffany Metro five-row bangle in 18K white gold with diamonds and an oval vivid yellow diamond ring.
Red….the Color of the Evening, dominated the Red Carpet.
Taylor Schilling in Ralph Lauren halter with keyhole detail and open back interest; Julianna Margulies who I adore always but not so much in this tea length gown from Russian, Ulyana Sergeenko, and Viola Davis in Donna Karan Atelier.
Now these ladies showed what Red is best for…..making the wearer look hot! Christine Baranski in Zac Posen in a deep shade of the hue, Helen Mirren, spectacular new face of L’Oreal at her mature age, in Dolce & Gabbana; and Jane Fonda who turned up the wow factor in Versace in one of the two gowns of the evening that brought back to mind, Gianni Versace’s famous safety-pin gown that Elizabeth Hurley made famous!
Canary Yellow…the Newest Pop Color Speaks to What’s Ahead for a Cheerful Spring
Naomi Watts in Gucci with Bulgari Serpent Neclace; Leslie Mann in KaufmanFranco, and Jenna Dewan Tatum in Carolina Herrera
Jewel Tones….always there but this year with some different twists from some different designers.
Lupita Nyongo in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture floral bustier, Kerry Washington in rose colored and navy design Mary Katrantzou, featuring sweet-heart neck and dropped shoulders, criticized by many but did wonders with Kerry’s softly-swept undo, was nothing but flattering to the Scandal-ous power house; and lastly Judith Light, who looked smashing and sophisticated in this luscious shade of green by designer we could not locate???
Pastels…always pretty, feminine and flattering
Chrissy Teigan in Zuhair Murad, the bead man who also did J.Lo’s caftan gown; Amy Adams in scrumptious shade of blue that was perfect for her hair by Atelier Versace, and Camilla Alves in Monique Lhuillier collection which were a memorable take-away for me from the Spring runways…..loved the simplicity and lack of beading, newer look for ML.
Metallics….Silver was the dominant metallic for the Golden Night
Kate Beckinsale in Elie Saab beaded and nude (a shade that has dominated past red carpets that was rather absent on Sunday evening; Dakota Johnson star of Fifty Shades of Grey or in this case Silver, kept in character in this Chanel, and Diane Kruger, elegant, simplicity in silver from Emilia Wickstead
White….for evening is very much on the rise; and shall we talk about the pops of skin, from cut-outs to the plunging necklines that were a major trend of the night.
Emily Blunt in custom Michael Kors Grecian gown with Lorraine Schwartz jewels, Rosamund Pike (five weeks after delivery) in Vera Wang very cut-out design, and Kate Hudson was the sexy gal of the evening, again in Versace gown that so resembled a modern version of the safety pin gown of years past by Gianni. Her body hugging gown, slick back hair and stepped up make-up made her one of the crimson carpet’s hottest looks.
Black….it’s just always there, and always sophisticated
Lorde in Narciso Rodriguez pantsuit; Jennifer Aniston in Saint Laurent, slit to the neck (almost) , and Amal Clooney in Dior Haute Couture, who it has been said on her own added those white gloves to finish off the outfit….probably I would have chosen black, but hey she was the talk of the evening….so who’s saying?!
Best Beauty….three hair looks dominated; the natural “do your own” look; the old Hollywood glamour side sweep or the up-do, done many many ways! Make-up was all stepped up and glam….bold lips, smokey eyes, heavenly lashes.
Guys Stepped Up their Game….Blue was definitely the new Black for many of the younger, modern guys.
Adrien Grenier, Matt Bomer in Ralph Lauren, and David Oyelowo in Dolce & Gabbana
The Golden Couple of the Evening
The Clooney’s…..George in Armani, as always and Amal in Dior Haute Couture
The Second Most Popular Couple of the Globes
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did another stellar job…..hoping it’s not really the end for these super-funny, talented gals that always make me laugh!
THE END!
