It’s Francene here again, and all week I have been seeing Gingham Patterns everywhere, and I simply can’t get enough of them! The word gingham is actually an appropriation of the Malay word genggang, meaning striped. Did you know that the first ginghams were actually a striped fabric, but nowadays it’s exclusively plaid or checked pattern which we wouldn’t have any other way.
The popular blue gingham reminds me of Dorothy’s dress in The Wizard of Oz and I’m sure you’ve heard of the term ‘table cloth’ fabric, but picnic chic has made an emblazoned presence on the runway for Spring. It’s the pattern that is here to brighten up our spring and summer days!
You can find this gingham pattern prevalent on dresses, jackets, skirts, heels and bags, but please do not limit it to just these items (and it’s also not limited to women’s fashion and accessories…men can and should wear this print, too, but more on that below). They come in an array of fabrics and enlarged or small patterns all seen on the likes of Michael Kors, Bottega Veneta, Oscar De la Renta and Ralph Lauren. The fresh designs are with pastel colours and feminine silhouettes.
Gingham accessories are beautiful if you aren’t used to wearing full patterned material, you can always add a cute handbag or clutch like this bright pastel yellow Coach Clutch or a pair of gingham heels to spice up your look but staying on trend. I’m in love with Miu Miu’s brand new heel collection. You will feel safer experimenting with this trend if you can add glimmers of the pattern into your daily routine. And don’t think it ends with just accessories to pair up with your outfits, oh no! Match your nails like these.
This is a very popular pattern for our male friends as we have seen strutting their stuff with it down the catwalks. I know if I opened up my husband’s closet a high majority of his ‘out of work’ fashion would be gingham checked or plaid. Men’s fashion has also incorporated this from the runway, perfect for this time of year especially with Rodeo season here in Houston! This print will help you bring out your inner cowboy fashionably!
This pattern isn’t just on trend for in your wardrobe, but also can be splashed around your home! From room dividers to wall treatments, see some of the innovative ways this historical fabric pattern is being used in modern homes. It brings a fresh country vibe into modern locations. I absolutely love this homely look.
Gingham is everywhere and it’s sure to be around for a long time, so make sure to add some of these items to your closet this season!
