Getting cheeky
Full cheeks are characteristic of youth that crosses all cultures. With time, we lose some of the volume from the soft tissue of the cheeks, as well as the cheek bones. Simply by replacing this volume you will continue to look youthful for years!
Cheek implants
As plastic surgeons, we divide the face into horizontal thirds. The middle third is from between the brows to the bottom of the nose, the upper third is above that and lower third is below. If a person’s middle 1/3 is longer than the upper and lower 1/3 and the cheeks are “flat”, cheek implants can not only give the youthful fullness of the cheeks, but give a nice overall shape to the face to balance the thirds. Cheek implants can be placed without external incisions, look great and are permanent, so most people would forget that they are there except that their cheeks look great!
Sculptra
People who are very active tend to have less body fat, including in their face. This can lead to hollowing of the cheeks and temples, which can unfairly age the person. This hollowing is often below the cheek bones, in an area below where cheek implants would be placed. A great option for these people is Sculptra. This is a series (usually 3) of injections that stimulate your body to create collagen and fill in these areas. The injection lasts for 2 years, but can be “boostered” with a single injection every 1-2 years to maintain the volume.
