Labor Day has come and gone, and believe it or not, fall is moments away. Can you believe it? We certainly can’t! Even though we soon have to say goodbye to caftans, cover ups, and sandals, we are so excited to embrace chunky sweaters, boots, and coats. It’s, hands down, the best season for fashion.
There are some great trends in store for all of us in the coming months. And we’re here to break them down for you. We’ve pulled together the 10 fall fashion trends we feel are most important. In no particular order…
70s Vibe
The 70s have made their comeback in a major way. While all trends and all decades of fashion tend to resurface every some odd years, this one could very well stick around for more than just a bit. From flared bottoms to plaid to floral prints, pull out some pieces in your closet (or shop for new ones) that channel that 70s vibe.
Army Green
In terms of colors, army green is one of the biggest for the months ahead. While this has been a big color for a while now, it’s most definitely not going anywhere anytime soon. Shades of ‘army green’ are thought about now as a neutral. Whether in jackets, pants, shirts, or accessories, this color will work with almost anything in your closet.
Fringe
When pulling this inspirational image, I immediately thought about Roz’s amazing fringe skirt. She’s had it for a little while now, and good thing, because fringe is here to stay (at least for right now). Fringe skirts, fringe shirts, fringe bags, fringe shoes…FRINGE everything. It’s fun, it’s whimsical, and it is most definitely no longer just for western wear. Year round, especially this fall, fringe is very important (and ever so stylish!).
Fur
Whether faux or real, fur is having a major moment. And for good reason. It’s classic, it’s elegant, it’s timeless, and it adds a stunning element to an otherwise more basic (or not so basic) ensemble. Yes, I know, for those of us in Houston, very few ‘fur weather’ days actually take place, but it’s exciting when they do! And you don’t only have to wear fur in the form of a jacket; seek out vests, accessories, and more.
High Waist
High waisted pants seem to come and go rather quickly, which means you should never get rid of those high waisted numbers in your closet! And right now, they’re BACK. Throw on those high waisted jeans or trousers, and pair them with a tucked in top or an oversized blouse and throw on those wedges and you’ll be looking oh so fabulous.
Knits
Knits are always a good idea. From turtlenecks to warmer sweaters to sweater vests, these are the items that will take you throughout the entire fall and winter seasons. Knits are versatile, come in so many different weights, are great layering pieces in climates such as Texas where you may want to layer up or layer down, and there are just so many ways to wear them. I’m sure you have tons in your closet, so pull those out and work them into your outfits now as you transition into Fall.
Modern Bohemian
Similar to the 70s vibe trend, modern bohemian is a big one, too. From lighter shades of denim, to maxi dresses and skirts, scarves, suede, hats, longer layers, earthy tones, it’s a fun trend, and one I certainly love. Don’t be afraid to rock this trend. You can dabble in it with an accessory (hat) or some more earthy tones than you’re used to wearing.
Red
Just last week, Francene wrote about the red blazer being such an important topper for the fall. And it’s not just blazers. Red is all over the place (clearly, we here at My RED Glasses are not complaining about this), and it’s being seen in short dresses, long gowns, skirts, pants, blouses, purses, shoes. It’s everywhere. Don’t be afraid of this bold color. It’ll bring a little something extra to any outfit, goes with just about any other color so that it is working itself toward being considered a neutral……a very vibrant neutral!
Shoulder Interest
We also recently wrote about off the shoulder tops, and a trend we’re seeing is not solely off the shoulder, but also one shoulder, and really any and all tops that have a bit of ‘shoulder interest’ to them. You can even wear a top that is slightly oversized where the neckline falls naturally a bit off one or both of your shoulders. We love this one.
Winter White
It does not matter that it’s after Labor Day, white is always a good idea. Always. We promise! There are no rules in fashion, and we absolutely support white pants well after the summer ends. Winter white is a big one. Not just this coming fall and winter, but in many years past, it’s also been a popular trend. So, don’t put away your winter whites just yet; wear them even on the coldest of days.
