The biggest news in Earrings this season is the return of the studs…and this one, in particular, the Dior Stud is the hautest style out there! Most flattering for all.
Fashion Statements with Earrings On Trend
Hi, Francene Davidson, My Red Glasses contributor from across the pond talking to you about one of my favorite trinkets, Earrings! Last week my husband and I were going on our weekly date night, as it’s coming up to our 1st wedding anniversary (yes, we have nearly lasted a whole married year!). We pulled up at the Galleria, husband pretending we were going for dinner but finding ourselves in Chanel, where they had laid out their earring collection in preparation for me to pick a pair. I have been dreaming of Chanel earrings since I was a little girl. Classic earrings that go with every occasion and every outfit, an investment – this is how I justify all our purchases!
So this adventure got me thinking about jewelry, especially earrings. We are spoilt for so many choices. That evening I had a rake through my jewelry collection – to my shock I have around 32 pairs of earrings! Ranging from everyday small studs to chandelier gorgeous worn only once pieces! I found out average pair of earrings us gals have is approximately 50-60 pairs, according to Aberdeen News.(Scotland) How many pairs do you have?
Jennifer Lopez once said “Women should never go without earrings. Passing on them is an opportunity missed.” I tend to agree with this statement. It’s those added little touches daily that can spruce up any outfit from day to night, picnic to event. If you have a mainly neutral-colored wardrobe, having earrings as an accessory is a perfect way to go. Also, you don’t have to spend a fortune to get some fun earrings for spring.
Studs
Fashionable studs are back and look so fresh and new. They are a nice way to wear an earring from day into night. It’s the perfect touch of femininity. You can’t go wrong with a classic for spring—all gold, rose gold and jewel tones. From Kate Spade’s bright colored studs and chandelier earrings to Tory Burch’s more classic looking ones with black, gold and pearls, and there is Kendra Scott with beautiful bigger shapes, bold colors such as turquoise. New in this season is a double stud or what has been tagged as the Dior Stud. This new way of wearing studs features a front and back of the ear look. These are the newest and most flattering looks in the return of the stud!
Chandelier
Chandelier earrings don’t seem to want to go away. They are great for an event, dressing up the LBD or your chicest evening gown by adding a touch of sparkle or love to pair up with a cute cream lace jumper or jeans with heels. Drawing attention to the colour of the earrings, you must experiment with the colour.
Ear Cuff
I love this trend of ear cuffs, or crawlers as they are also referred to. I purchased two gold ear cuffs from ASOS. You will be seeing these accessories a lot more throughout the year. Start off small with simple pieces then build up to more extravagant colours and designs. I love how sophisticated Emma Watson looks with her cuff plus it was a big celeb accessory worn on the Red Carpet especially well by Keira Knightley at the SAG awards.
Styling Tip: With ear cuffs, it’s important to wear them on only one side. It’s a little too much to wear it on both. It’s meant to be a little touch of edge, and are available from everyone from Harry Winston to the lowest price points at BaubleBar.
Hoops
Hoops are probably the most universally popular of all earring styles. They come in all sizes, shapes, and metal colors. I prefer gold jewelry as it’s warmer and compliments the majority of my wardrobe, however silver hoops look great to add to more casual outfits or dressed more elegantly. If you’re feeling daring, go for thicker gold hoops, paired up with coral or burgundy colours. They would look fabulous together.
Mismatch
Mix and match your earrings, whether it’s a stud on one side and a gold spike on the other. I like to express myself through them, have fun with this trend! Asymmetrical pairs of earrings can add unexpected oomph to an ensemble. They’re often sold in pairs, but if you’re planning to mix and match asymmetrical pairs, keep clear of different colors on different ears. If you’re wearing ones where one side is longer than the other, try to keep the neckline bare.
Statement
Anything statement (a ‘wow’ piece) can add a perk to any outfit. They look fantastic with plain dresses or jeans and a slick tee. I love how accessories can make an outfit simply without being over-the-top. Dolce & Gabbana perfected this look, along with Chanel.
Tassels
Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore graced the red carpet wearing bold tassel earrings. They look exquisite against contrasting colours. These are all over the highstreet on trend in pastel colours and perfect for spring, which is just around the corner. These earrings are great for adding some vibrancy into your work wear. The originator, or most in demand, were the Oscar de la Renta tassels that have been copied by many. Another favorite of ours, are produced right here by local Jewelry designer, Christina Green
In summation, on earrings….
It’s important to keep your face shape in mind when choosing an earring, since they are worn so close to the face. Go with the following code; if you have a round face, I wouldn’t recommend earrings that are round. If you have a longer face or oval face, try oversized studs or a round shape. Enjoy experimenting with your own collection and new pieces, as well! Always remember that the most flattering earrings for any complexion are Pearls…they will make your face glow!
